Greetings,

I recently installed an FT-857D in my truck and I am using Hamsticks as a type of antenna.  I have purchased an antenna tuner to aid in improving the match in my vehicle.  Specifically I have an LDG Z-11pro II.  My question is can I power the tuner off of a 12V SLA battery or would this hurt the tuner?  I tried two AA battery holders but the tuner wouldn't come to life.

Thanks,

The tuner is rated for 12VDC at 300mA so an SLA battery should power it ok so long as you don't drain it too low. You should also be able to power it from the vehicle power.

A better way would be to fix the reason your antennas aren't matching.
