I hope the township has read PRB1. Maybe your neighbor should have his literacy expanded also.

Huh, I guess someone should explain how it is to the new neighbor.

However..........

It wouldn't be because of any CB tirades coming over his consumer electronics, would it Captain?

Just asking, your uptightedness.

Wait a minute, looking at Google Earth shows a completely different view.

You guys live one block from a wrecking yard and two blocks from some sort of chemical transfer facility right next to the industrial area and you're trying to tell us someone moved from an HOA neighborhood and has the audacity to ask you to remove some antennas? Really??

There's way more to this than you are letting on. As usual.

Or the house right next door that has all the old cars sitting in the yard?  (Of course, there's no telling how old the imagery on Google Earth is.)

You need to publicize this outrage.  You need to rally your other neighbors to prevent this HOA zealot from telling you what to do.

Maybe I should invent/perfect/market a quick disconnect that senses inbound airborne liquid molecules?

So, the first and second videos have nothing to do with you, but I suspect the third might. But they said a suburb of Detroit... are you lying to the FCC as to where you are?

You best check out Google Earth and put in your QRZ address bucko. You'll see what the rest of the world sees too. It's hard to lie to a satellite, unless that address isn't where you are.

WAIT!

Some well meaning people answered thinking the OP is a rational person.

As most of us learned a long time ago, he's a troubled guy who sometimes gets unsupervised access to the computer in the dayroom at the nut farm.

Just another in a long string of attempts to garner attention with pathetic, lie-laden, everyone-is-against-me, babbling BS.

Just like QRM'ers on the radio, people give him the feedback he so desperately requires to stoke his delusions of adequacy. That's why like a heroin addict, he keeps coming back for another fix.

you have a Federal license to operate.

Some seem to think it is a license to do as you please when it is not and that license today is little more than a mail order CB ticket today that anyone with no techno know how can get so do not spin it into a big thing. (it was once but not today by any means) What ever local law be them HOA or zoning you have to comply or move. If you want a free for all do as you please try moving to a third word country with little or no infrastructure or rule of law and see how that works out...

Well as I have always said many times over they go low I go high. With that being said I had time to invite the neighbor who wants me to remove my antennas I am doing this before I go to work this weekend . I have 5 mins to show him what Ham radio is all about that should be enough time to show him the intrigue workings of ham radio and how it can benefit man kind. Well with that being said when I get some free time next week I will let everyone know how this unique opportunity turns out.God Bless all and lets all be Joyous to one another..Trying to help ham radio be a greater than normal hobby. 73ss. I hope by going high when everyone goes low works out. 73zzz'

They called me too and said they were going to ship me the antennas and a station of some CBer turned ham, free of charge.

If he (Kraus) understood the backstory instead of (unfortunately) coming in the middle of the show, I'm sure that post would've never seen an electron.

Too bad too that some of the most incriminating stuff on the web has been purged. I'm sure someone is savvy enough to find it in some archive service somewhere but the one time Fred turned me onto one such thing it went so far over my head it hurt and now I've misplaced the linky.

The proof is out there. Hidden on some nondescript server in the basement of a nondescript building somewhere. I wish I had the moxie to fish it all out and keep it up for all hamdom to see just what KTN is really all about, through his own actions and in his own words.

Since this is just an exercise in fiction, just roll over and give up on radio. It's more important to get along with neighbors that to enjoy your life and liberty, not.

Nobody is suggesting that at all, slick.  You brought KTN up, and the replies asked you to look for yourself at his ridiculous behaviors on here.  You'll have to point out a single post from anyone who wrote "hate him because we hate him."  He's had people reach out to him, but he doesn't want decency....it's not fun or entertaining to him.

As for puking, can't help you there.  But I'm guessing it's just more of what you think are sassy, cool, and hip things to write.

That's what I'm trying to figure out Joe. Why the ugliness towards anyone here?

I think I'll give 17 meters one more chance this evening. Boy yesterday I called and called and finally someone answered.
Only then did I figure out why...the band just don't propagate. He was almost not there. And that was CW.

But just down the street, 20 meters is popping.

Amazing just 4MHz is such a difference.

If Captain CB would abide by that statement (and conform to the Topic Rules which Mike stickied at the top of this forum) we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Or others related to same.

The problem is...too many threads get turned off-topic then locked or outright deleted as a result of someone who cannot abide by the board's rules.

User management isn't that big of a deal, admin-wise. The rest of the board shouldn't have to suffer the antics of an arse-clown.

Now the KTN thingy. Folks snap at him right quickly. Folks try to convince me to see he's an ass of sorts. I played a couple of those videos and they show Artie Johnson from Laugh-In in the sixties...very interesting...you're right I don't get it.

Many of those (carefully and not-too-carefully disguised trolling) threads have been consigned to the bit bucket of history by the site's admin staff.

Pepperidge Farms remembers...and so does archive.org, if you search their site captures creatively.

It's pretty easy for newcomers to the discussion to claim that everyone's dogpiling - but they often lack the context of prior history.

The issue is when such behavior derails otherwise useful threads and either gets them locked or deleted.

Mike's 'Misc' posting rules are clearly listed at the top of the sub-forum, in a stickied thread.

"Ham Radio" topics only.

No CB stuff. No political content. Etc. Though it's not clearly laid out (and IMNSHO there should be language in the referenced 'rules' thread) outright trolling is also frowned on.

The fix for a perpetual rule breaker is actually pretty simple and doesn't involve the use of the "Ignore" button by the other members.

Wow. I can not believe that he wants to start an hoa on my street. Then he believes he can get me to remove my antennas.

If this is for real you'd better finish your antenna farm so it can be grandfathered.

I am going to represent myself at the meeting to get an hoa started.Wow. I will tell them all the good ham radio does and how much i contributed  in the HAM WORLD.73SSS

Oh boy, well, then you may want to study up on grandfathered rules. Some food for thought:

The word fines will turn folks to refuse the HOA. Your antennas will be safe.

THIS IS AA4HA:

have noticed that we have a few individuals who add nonsense to discussion threads that end up turning them in to flame wars or way off-topic (a couple in Misc are an example). Rather than shutting down a thread might it be an alternative to put those particular people on "probation" where every post they make is held-back until it is reviewed and approved by a moderator?

It would be less disruptive to the rest of the forum users and can also serve as a tool to either modify the behaviors of the individual in question or to encourage them to find somewhere else to go to (like /dev/null).

I understand that it may become burdensome to the moderators but it is a technique that has been used on other forums to minimize disruptive influences.

THIS IS PLANKEYE

After reading the responses from all of you within this thread who claim to NOT feed the trolls on other threads I agree with Tisha.  You all should be put on probation.  If you would like some more examples I think I can find some.

Really?  ???

I was trolling Chuck, giving him a taste of his own medicine. I'm not particularly proud of that BTW. But I felt it was necessary that someone said it.

I hope I'm not offending your sensibilities sir. It's not my conscience intention. Or for that matter anyone else's sensibilities. It just sometimes works out that way.

Again, for some of the others out there, since it bears repeating.......

since KTN's stuff is acceptable to management, so apparently is mine.

AA4HA SAID THIS:

The types of individuals that this might apply to may actually be getting satisfaction when the result is a locked thread. I can see where the entire thread goes Off-Topic and that is the right call. If it is just one individual who is throwing rocks then it may be more appropriate to remove them from the discussion.

There have been one or two threads by the individual that many of you are referring to where he actually did contribute in a positive way. I would not want to stifle everything that they have to say or contribute, just modify their behavior so they engage brain before the keyboard.

188 replies . Not uncommon for a thread here .
1208 views . Not an unreasonable ratio to posts.
A little hard to gauge the distance and direction of the inevitable thread drift as it began on page one (post one ?) .
Most of the usual suspects have checked in by now ( myself included  ,some troll bait is irresistible)
Godwin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law) has yet to make an appearance , in person or by inference .
I am still a bit perplexed .
KC8KTN was the original poster and here we are at page 18 ?!
The thread wasn't locked after post one and continues to be left open.
Has the thread fallen into a relativistic back watter eddy , hidden from the purview of moderation and staff ?
Are the laws of forum decorum briefly suspended in time to allow this to continue ?
Am I just whistling Dixie into a dummy load ...

I really shouldn't have bothered but some troll bait is irresistible...

Yessir!

Reminds me of an "article" posted on the home page a few years ago.  Some guy thought he was an antenna design pioneer by using CB whips in various installations. One of his pictures included a glimpse of the housing type at his QTH....take a guess.  But the real furball started when someone dared to question the validity of the super-duper performance claims.

BTW, maybe Chucky can explain to Kraus why there are so many people "interested in MARS," since he doesn't seem to know.  The Captain is always looking for a few recruits.  Kraus' inexperience and short tenure as a ham make him a strong candidate.

My interest is not really Mars. It was Saturn's rings through a two inch scope which got me hooked.
I'm at a fourteen incher now.

I like planetary nebulae the best. Their blue-green hues attract like no other object. But, the Omega
nebula is quite the treat.

Have you ever seen Saturn through a telescope? It'll change you.

Speaking of clearing up any misunderstandings...

You weren't clear about your "extra exam" either.  Seems to be a misunderstanding there too....

I said I took the EXTRA EXAM  about a week ago . Maybe there is some misunderstanding on everyone's part. I was referring to my forklift driving privileges. Where I work now I can operate all the forklifts/ stand-up forklift / and scissor lift where I work they call it Extra forklift licence.  They also change the color of your licence from green to red. I still operate cnc machines also gear shavers and hobbing machines  fanuc controllers.Anyway I just wanted to clear this up.. I am also first aid responder at work ..Everyone have a joyous day and be safe. Raining on and off today dxing durning the day is pretty good also.

And an overactive imagination fueled by a combination of booze and medications (or lack thereof)

I don't watch many movies, it's true, though I did recognize the "Captain Jack Sparrow" reference (and had to look up "bring me that horizon."  I gather that's about like the Red Queen doing six impossible things before breakfast.)  ;-)  I am quite a fan of rum, though.

To keep this horrible thread right on topic ;) I would like to mention that I've been away from HF for a while; like many old white hams, I've had some rather appalling health problems.  Two years ago I managed to play in some CW and RTTY contests--they're easy and fun if you're not actually trying for a good score--but apart from that, nothing but one EA from the car driving home the other day.

This morning I got my courage up, to match the temporary vertical I got up last week, and worked an EW on 15m CW.  Terrible--muscle tremors affected my sending (still can't find my memory keyer), but it was FUN.  :-)   I'll be cruising 15/17 and 30 this afternoon when I have some spare time. :-)

Now, back on the pirate theme, how about a sea shanty, courtesy of the BBC:

What shall we do with the drunken nurker,
What shall we do with the drunken nurker,
What shall we do with the drunken nurker,
He’s bending his cordwangle.

Hit him in the nadgers with the bosun’s plunger,
Slap him on the grummitt with a wrought iron lunger,
Cuff him in the moolies with the Captain’s grunger —
Till his bodgers dangle.

Interesting in how someone can go and pull my postings from elsewhere and then represent them as my active participation in this thread.

Maybe I have not commented on this thread because it is the "same-ol-spam" where the thread author just continues to slide further in to his delusional narrative.

95% of the people who have read this thread know that it is "Captain CB" (I love that moniker, so appropriate) and whatever he says is a fabrication because he is bored or genuinely needing a refill on his lithium prescription. Probably the only thing that annoys me any more is that this self-serving-hysteria over the idea that someone could come in to a neighborhood and "create" an HOA is far from the truth but some newby ham will believe it and decide that the hobby is just not worth the effort if it is going to attract the ire of the lunatic fringers (town-council mentality like the UK has today).

I just ask, please do not put words in my mouth. I am perfectly capable of stirring things up on my own <smile>.

So this guy is moving from neighborhood to neighborhood just to run for office for some HOA? Really?

Uh, no. Nobody noticed or really cared much. At least not publicly. Sorry.

Bye now, don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. I wonder what your therapist thinks of all this?

For the record - you will be back; it's only a matter of time since we've been handed off to your friend/alter ego/sock puppet personality.

Nobody believes this but you since it never happened to begin with. Nice way to dig your hole just that much more deeper. Oh well, Bye now! 73 & may God truly bless you with the gift of truthfulness.

Wow, you post the best stuff.  I didn't even know Eham had a joke section but boy, you sure had us all fooled.  Good one.  I have a neighbor from Mars who is complaining that it's too hot and wet.  I think he's planning to run for HOA's in a whole bunch of communities simultaneously so he can get people to stop watering their lawns and make them stockpile snow in the winter. ;D

You're a funny guy KTN, but don't quit your day job, comedy is a tough business.

Hard to believe since you stated you don't live in an HOA neighborhood. I'll suspend reality and play along though. If this were happening to me in my non-HOA neighborhood, the EME array and several wire antennas would have been installed by now.

Hard to believe that this rubbish has gone on for more than two months and eighteen pages. The site moderators must be asleep at the wheel.

18 pages of nonsense November fever ETC...  I understand it may become a burden for the moderators to deal with issues like this but it would be less disruptive to the rest of the forum users.  Well wait a minute 18 pages of nonsense can't all be from one person, so we have all kinds of people saying all kinds of things but we blame just one person?  Rather than shutting down any thread why can't we put you all on "probation" any response you give to chuck is held-back until it is reviewed and we don't have 18 pages of nonsense.

I have heard a lot of folks complain about trolls on this website and the same folks take the bait making them a SUCKER.  You won't get rid of the trolls on this website but since you all are so concerned about them try this method.  SHUT UP don't take the bait and STARVE the troll of attention.  Don't be a troll yourself, some of you are and you know it and you love it you need to stop that behavior or stop complaining about the trolls.  This thread feeds trolls for goodness sake who can't see that?  Again my advice SHUT UP don't take the bait and STARVE the troll of attention.  If everyone takes my advice, well you won't but it's good in theory.  That is why we have 18 pages of nonsense.  Chuck loves it and he really hasn't said much it was all of you.  He is fishing and caught 18 pages of nonsense.  You all need to be put on probation before you are allowed to respond to Chuck.  Are the moderators asleep at the wheel here or what?

I'll ask again, what does November Fever mean? Is it some ham radio event that occurs in your area?
