Post by: W1EAT on September 09, 2017, 01:44:34 PM
I can't remember ever seeing such a high A index.  What's going on?

You've missed it.
Sunspot 2673 fired off a barrage of solar flares including an X9.3 which is the biggest in over 10 years.
Thursday night it hit giving a severe storm of Kp8.
The spot is still active but is turning away from Earth

Was the rain water hot? Did it glow?  ;D

This is an extract from a NOAA report I saw in another thread, posted by N5MOA:

"Solar radiation storm

S 2    Moderate

Biological: Passengers and crew in high-flying aircraft at high latitudes may be exposed to elevated radiation risk."
