Title: SDRPlay RSP2 vs. Icom IC-R9000
Post by: KC2NLT on September 11, 2017, 05:09:18 PM
I realize this might be an apples to oranges comparison, but given the state of SDR technology today, I'm curious to get some of the veterans' input on this.

Price aside, in terms of performance/reception, would you go with a used IC-R9000 in good working condition or the SDRPlay RSP2?

Thanks.

It takes ALOT of expense to build a quality receiver

And the 9000 is without a doubt light years better than the SDR at ANY price

I do not have any experience with the Icom IC9000 ... it looks very impressive.

I do have an RSP1 and at the current price of $100 (or $140 for the RSP2) you do get a lot of capability for low cost. If you have neither the RSP nor the Icom, you might consider getting and using one of the RSP's and see how you like it. If you decide its not enough capability for you, it could still function along side the Icom and be useful for the panoramic display feature, if nothing else ... so I would not see the RSP as a wasted investment.

Good luck!
