Title: Off-the-shelf 33cm
Post by: KE6WNH on August 06, 2008, 04:51:30 PM
If a manufacturer were to design a multiband HT or mobile which included 33cm, would it be legal for sale in the US as long as it was cellular blocked and it met spurious emissions standards?

Sure, why not?

I guess it all boils down to how many hams would actually want to buy it. I was a little surprised to learn some hams here in L.A. use 33cm for remotes. My thinking is a little farsighted, but I imagine a 6-bander someday with 6m, 2, and 1.25 on one side, and 70cm, 33, and 23 on the other, but then would come the nightmare of who's going to engineer antennas for this little monster.

A 6-band HT is possible but would be quite expensive.  May be no market for it.  Not sure how many hams would spend over $1K on a hand held, and that's about what it would need to cost.

LOL! Not to mention that HT would be the size of a brick. I was actually thinking along the lines of a mobile... sort of like an FT-8900 on steroids.
