Title: TS-870 Vs. IC-746Pro or 756ProII
Post by: YV5MBX on October 31, 2003, 02:25:24 PM
I would like to receive some feedback from anyone with experience with those equipments specifically in low bands.

Under your opinion wich one is more suitable for that application.

Consider the Elecraft K2 - it's in the same league with the rigs you mention and gets my vote!

Really depends on your needs.
Basically:

Do you like a real time scope? If so, 756proII

Do you like 2 meters combined? 746pro

The 870S is older architecture. Older DSP. No dual watch or second receiver as in proII. Good radio, from what I hear, so I am not knocking the 870S.

I have the 756proII and 746pro. Love them both!
First choice would be the proII.

Put them asside and look at the Elecraft K2 or better yet the TenTec Orion.

I would recommend the Ten Tec Orion. Latest technology, software upgradeable, Best reciever available today, very good TX audio, and service / support that is unmatched in my experience. Next would be the Yaesu FT-1000mp, but beware of some QC problems at Yaesu these days. The Icom 756 Pro II has a lot of features, lights, knobs etc. and is a good radio, but the reciever falls a little short under crowded / noisy band conditions, especially if you like weak signal Dx work. Depends on what you want the most. 73

Hola Javier
Max. LU5AIM/EA7 desde Sevilla. España.
