Title: Building my HF base station
Post by: KC5VUW on March 01, 2009, 02:58:26 PM
Ok. I am looking to start building my HF base station.  I have about $300 that I am looking to spend on an older radio.  Doesn't have to include 160m or have an internal ATU.  I really am not sure what it will need to have.  I have been working on my mobile HF station and it has an Icom 706mkIIg with a fullsize homwbrew scrwewdriver that I built that will tune 10m thru 80m.  I know that $300 will not get a me a "modern" radio, but what do you people suggest?  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

Kenwoood 520s, 530s, or 820s, 830s.

all good rigs and in that price range..(except the 830 usually goes for a little more).

With about 300 dollars, I would be searching out a good used Icom IC 735.   A great old proven radio.

For a little bit more you could get a brand new Icom 718.  Also now a proven good deal radio.

While there are lots of low priced radios, The above two have proven themselves over the years as good deals.
