Title: FT2900 and FT7900 mics

Wondering if the mics on these radios are solid/sturdy unlike the mics on the Icoms I used to own ?

Hummm. I own an Icom 25A, which runs 24/7, and except for power outages, has been doing so since 1977. It gets used about every other day. The Icom mic is still going strong, including the cord. I used an SM8 base mic for nearly 20 years on about 5 different radios, and never had a problem. Of course I didn't use them for batting practice.

I've only owned one Yaesu, an FT-450 which I purchased 3 years ago. I sold it three months later. During that brief period, the mic died, and was replaced under warranty. So, that sort of shoots your theory of problem Icom mics.

It is just a case of odds. Anything can, and will happen. Unfortunately, we both got on the short end of the odds.
