Jeepers, I'm glad somebody asked this question. They need to lose the LEDs and put an LCD readout with THE FULL FREQUENCY. Not having all the digits seems totally cheeseball on an otherwise fantastic rig. Best of 73, de Tom AB9NZ http://radiotelegrapher.posterous.com/

I don't believe they will update the KX1 anytime soon. They will concentrate on the soon to be released KX3. IF they did change something on the KX1, they could come down on the price some. Nearly $400 for a CW QRP kit only rig with the 4 band option ($500+ with the tuner) seems kind of expensive (And I am sure it is a fine unit and probably the best of its type out there).

There is a 3 bander KX1 on EBay for $180, it was originally a Buy it now for $250...until someone started to bid on it. I think you might see more of these on E-bay as (I assume) some are selling these off in order to get the KX3.

Maybe the mysterious missing KX2 will have the changes I'd like to see on the KX1. Happy Holidays guys, de Tom AB9NZ http://radiotelegrapher.posterous.com/

I'm hoping to see some sort of new transceiver kit that is fully assembled by the user like the K2, K1, KX1. While the K3 is a great radio and the KX3 looks like it might be a winner, I would love to see something new come out for us that like to build em entirely.
I've built a K2 in the past (sold it.. too big) and just finished building the KX1.

For me, I don't want to take radio that cost over $K into the out backs, rivers ,rain and mud.

Bump the power up  to 10 watts and use a inbuilt lithium battery pack.

Shrink the whole design down using all surface mount components, even if this means losing the kit option.

Make the design a rugger waterproof unit that you can kick around like a football.

Offer a single lever paddle  option

Offer a DCDC converter that can run from 9 volts to 50 volts DC
AC to DC converter that can run from 90 volts to 260 volts.

Use a LCD display

A build LED torch for emergencies, with red as option so it does not destroy your night vision.

Printing in glow in the dark paint.

Support CW keyboard operation.

A Android phone rig control program.

A PSK IMD meter, so you can use the radio as IMD meter for your normal station

Invert the design like the Yaesu FT817 so you can use it backpack or neck mobile looking down on the controls

I think that should be enough, dream on it will never happen now that the KX3 is here.

If Elecraft up dated its KX! QRP rig, what should they add or change?
