Title: Radio-Mart Sales & Service!!!
Post by: K4RYR on March 07, 2012, 11:48:58 AM

Within the last week I purchased a used Kenwood TS-940S from Martyn at Rado-Mart and I am here to tell you that all the bad press that he has been getting is "Totally Unfounded"!!!  The radio arrived in beautiful condition and operates flawlessly, it was an excellent deal and I could not be happier with my purchase.  So all the previous negative postings about Radio-Mart should be ignored....he is a very valid reseller of ham equipment and very sensitive to the buyers satisfaction!!!  Of course there are always those that couldn't be happy no matter what you do for them....and unfortunately we have quite a few of them in the amateur radio comunity!!!

I would buy from Radio-Mart again in a hearbeat!!!  He does stand behind his sales and service without a doubt!

Unless of course you live in Russia.

See:  http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php/topic,81388.0.html

Are you telling us all this guy ( along with hundreds of others ) is all wrong and just a "whiner" who likes to make trouble ?

Have you ever Googled "radio-mart" and read all of the other horror stories ? Or are you just assuming that because since you got a good deal ( and I am glad you did ) that everyone else has been treated the same as you ?

Well, since there have been so many horror stories about this dealer, the only things that could have happened in the order of their likelyhood is:

1.  You got lucky.
2.  You're a friend of his.
3.  He gave you a deal so you would post something like this.
4.  He's changing his ways--which is doubtful.

When you say ALL the previous postings should be ignored, are you really trying to tell us that every other person who has been stiffed by this dealer is full of it?  Don't even try, because nobody is going to believe you anyway.

Why?  It's just a repeat of this thread's original poster about how Radio Mart has been 'sadly mislabelled' all these years.  (Yawn.)

I don't know much about this guy but his Radio Mart and Martyn have been popping up in the beware sections for quite a few years. I understand he began ripping off hams on Ebay. If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. So personally take K4RYR comments with a grain of salt (could be the onset of dementia) and give old Marty a real wide berth as his rap sheet speaks for itself.  ;)

Maybe Mr. Martyn has learned something about Southern Hospitality and is selling the good(Stripped Down) equipment to folks that live within a days drive from his QTH. I guess he does not want to be invited on a Deer Hunt where they strap a pair of antlers to his butt and declare open season ::).

Never bought from him. Have no intention of buying from him. Radio Mart may have wonderful service but one thing I have is learned is that this many people dont complain if no problem exist. The other thing I have found out is that hams will understand some things if you really made a mistake. Saying something is new in box but it is not cant be explained away. I have made mistakes in description before and I have offered all I could offer to get it straight. If I send it and it is different than the way I descirbed or you feel it is different let me know. I will try to make it right. Radio mart seems to not give a damn. Need a new filter? Buy a radio with and remove it and claim it was not in it. Too many bad stories around and too much friction.

Heck Ol' Dick was one of them good ol' boys right? Maybe Mr. Martyn should change his name to Richard Head because that sounds more fitting.  :P

So all the previous negative postings about Radio-Mart should be ignored....

I typically like to let people know why I'm putting them on 'ignore' here.  Common courtesy and all that. :)

I have sold radios to Martyn and bought radios from him.  He is a first class buyer and seller.  I hate to see bad press about him from people who have never dealt with him.

I too bought a radio from him a couple of years ago, no problems.  Recently he bought a radio off of me on ebay and was coupletely satisfied with his purchase.

Every once in awhile a blind squirrel will find a nut.  ;)

To humor myself I once contacted him about shipping rates on a radio he had on Ebay. (I had no intentions of buying it after reading the 100's of horror stories about his business)

He quoted me a shipping price that was about 5 times higher than most dealers in the states would charge to ship a radio to Ontario Canada.

Like someone said, if it quacks and swims like a duck, it is a duck.

But bad press from persons who have bought or sold from him are OK I assume?

Glad you had a good experience with him.  I didn't.

Right...and ONE glowing recommendation (from you) should overrule all the bad reviews he's gotten?  Based on the characteristics of your "glowing review"...I suspect that you aren't who you claim to be and might even be Martyn himself.

More classic Radio-Mart Bravo Sierra....

like his low res photos that don't show how bad the radio
cabinets are damaged, he sends hi res to his photo hosting site but
blames ebay on his poor photos.

He may  have 17K feedbacks but how many were really
thumbs down but not for the buyer getting neg feedback if
the truth was posted via neg feedback for radio-mart?

I'd rather take a chance on a game of three card then with radio-mart.

I was recently sent by Radio-Mart a Kenwood TS-2000 purchased by another ham for remote use. When it arrived it powered up but that was about it. There wasno frequency indication on the lower bands and the U/L CW error message was obvious. The unit was said to be working by the vendor Radio-Mart but after sending it to Kenwood for service they made an evaluation and a quote for $1600 to get the radio working. I tried to contact Martyn Allison of Radio-Mart but he was non-responsive. Even telephone calls to his so called business in Georgetown, KY went to voice recorder. I now read that others have had serious unresolved problems with Radio- Mart. The person who had paid for the radio was from the Ukraine and had to scrape up every last dime to buy it from Radio-Mart by Postal Money Order which was cashed. Accordingly I want to pursue legal avenues in order to get resolution. There are also potential criminal charges that could be levied....but I need the help of anyone who has had similar experiences with Radio-Mart out of Georgetown, KY. If you are such a person please send me a private e-mail at herbs@vitelcom.net and share with me your experiences. Your information will be kept confidential and shared only with the U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Kentucky for further action. If there is enough indication of serious mail and or wire fraud that office has assured me they will proceed.

Thanks for your help and 73

Whew! Thank heaven for eHam.net!
I almost pulled the triggered and purchased a "like new" FT-897D from Radio-Mart. Then I did some research here.
While he may or may not be a trustworthy reseller, I will use my better judgement and shop elsewhere.
There are way too many negative reviews here regarding his sales practices.
The deal is not that good to take a chance. ;)

Buy from someone local that you know and trust. RadioMart is a reseller; he bought the radio with the intention of making a profit. Cut out the middleman and save yourself some serious money.

I have also completed a very satisfactory transaction with Martyn Allison, of Radio-Mart.

I decided to add an interface card  to my transceiver, for a panadapter project, and his site had one available. I ordered from him, exchanged a couple of emails to get the shipping details in order (up to Canada), and paid via PayPal.
He shipped my order within several hours, and with the expected amount of time for a cross-border delivery via USPS, my package arrived this afternoon.

The card is now installed, works properly, and I received all the necessary cables and other hardware.

His price was fair, his attention to my order was excellent, and I am completely satisfied with the whole thing.

I love this!

A few years ago I was having some tough times so i sold a bunch of my toys.
I put a FRG-9600 on eBay and good old Radio Mart won the auction.

I had stated in the ad that there was just the radio and the manual. Nothing else

I was paid in short order and shipped as soon as the payment cleared.
abt a week later good old Martyn sends me a nasty email complaining that there was no wallwart with the receiver and how he would have to spend more money to get one. Well I never said there was any power supply with the radio. And I had made dang sure that he couldnt reverse or stop payment before I shipped because of his reputation. Sometimes things do come around to bite ya in the a$$. Too bad so sad Martyn. I wouldnt buy a rusty nail from this guy! But I will take his money every day!

Anyone know what ID(s) he is using to purchase on eBay?

I may be putting some stuff up there in the next few weeks, and (to avoid potential problems) would just as soon not sell to him.

If that is your worry, why not avoid eBay and use the classfied section here and the other two ham websites? Then you'll know who is trying to buy your stuff before you've committed to the sale. You also won't have to pay the listing fee  :D

As far as I can tell, Radio-Mart has not been buying any radio equipment on Ebay lately. Best to put him on your "blocked bidders" list and that way he can't bid.

The only problem with that is that he has three or four e-bay IDs already, and it's ridiculously easy for anyone to get an ID there.  For that reason I agree with KJ6AMF.

Different venues give different results - I've had better responses selling on eBay than posting here.  If I had any of Martyn's eBay IDs, I would be putting them on my blocked bidders list as mentioned by VHK.

However, I've decided to start here with my latest item for sale; if it doesn't sell here, it goes on eBay next week.

I recently ordered a yaesu hand mic for my ft 100d from martyn and it arrived rather quickly but when I plugged it into my rig it wouldnt key it. I contacted martyn and he told me to send it back for a refund minus the $15.00 shipping. It cost me an additional $6.00 to send it back. I told him that I wanted another mic and not a refund. Martyn told me he would test another and send it out. Well he refunded me the cost of the mic minus the shipping. I re emailed him back and told him I wanted a mic not a refund. He then told me he forgot and he would test one and get it out to me. Well its been about a month now and I still have not heard from him yet nor have I recived my mic and Im out $21.00 in shipping costs. Thats a heck of a way to run a shop! I will never ever purchase anything from Radio mart again. BTW Martyn advertised the mic as being origional Yaesu equipment. It was not. It was a cheap chineese knock off.

This sounds like a typical "radio-mart" transaction. Martyn sends you something that does not work ( even though it was fully tested by his team of highly trained technicians )  and then wants YOU to pay return shipping, even though he sold you junk in the first place.

As I have already said, you should fire off a few letters of complaint to Heil Sound and LDG electronics and let them know what kind of a show "radio-mart" runs ...

If you purchased a mic from any other dealer in the USA and it was D.O.A. would they say "send it back for a refund minus shipping"...? I think not.

Used from Radio-Mart. It's a pretty neat scam when you consider how insidious it is.He sells me a non-working purported working Collins receiver for $600 plus $28 UPS shipping. $28 UPS charges were found to be honest. I get a radio that won't power up but decide to have it repaired and keep it after argument with Martyn. My MC statement arrives with the original charge of $628 listed Plus a Second non-invoiced and not agreed to charge for $30. So even if I did return his junk, he's Still profiting $30!

So, dispute the charge.  Not just to get the money back--but to give the guy the same headaches that he gives you and everyone else.

Good luck with that...Two very reputable dealers in New and Used amateur gear are R&L in Hamilton, Ohio and Universal in Reynoldsburg/Columbus, Ohio. R&L will ship that day when ordered by phone before 1830z and I have it next day.Universal not so quick. Both stand behind their new as well as used and I am well pleased every transaction. 73.

You didn't get anything from radiomart.  All radiomart was for that sale was a 'front'.  The radio was shipped from the warehouse directly to you.  The involvement of radio mart was only a sort of a 'clearing house' for your money.  IOW, radiomart got paid for passing your money along to the real seller, so good 'ol Martyn didn't get his hands on your radio.

I think that that kind of situation is the only time radiomart acts fairly--when they're forced to.

And there may some out there who say, "Ted Bundy was nice to me, I never had any problems with him."  Of course that would not change the fact that he was a mass murderer.  Likewise, just because a couple of people claim good experiences with Radio-Mart does not make it a reputable outfit.

No thanks.  David Hannum's quote (often attributed to P.T. Barnum) comes to mind...
