Title: kenwood ts50 no transmit

i have a kenwood ts50...when i key the mic the screen goes dim and it does not transmit,any ideas what could be wrong with it.i have allready got one problem with the screen dim when radio is switched on,got answers to that problem but nothing seemed to be wrong with what was said,now this other problem as started.any ideas would be appreciated thank you

It sounds like a power supply or power cable connection problem to me. Measure the voltage at the radio terminals in both receive and transmit. If the line has too much resistance (i.e. bad connector, etc) then the voltage may drop very low when you try to draw transmit current.

And, if there's a fuse in the DC power cable, clean it and re-seat it.  This is a notorious source of trouble for IC-706's and IC-7000's.   Some people replace the stock DC fuses with automotive fuses and fuse holders, which are more reliable.

It only takes a little bit of resistance to cause trouble with TX voltage.

hi,

I agree, we've had several on the group below
have poor connections with the glass type fuses
and worn contact pins on the power connection
at the rear of the radio.
