Title: MOONRAKER MP2500
Post by: ZL1CTS on October 01, 2012, 07:20:13 PM
Hi All

Anyone have any info on the MOONRAKER MP2500 mobile antenna?
I see loads on Ebay and from what I can see and read its got a similar UNUN to the Comet CHA250b,

has anyone got one or a review of one, I'm looking for something to match my ic7000 in a small car and want to know if this is OK for the money

thanks

Looks more like smoke and mirrors to me. Its only a 6ft whip... Cover 7-54mhz, but tuner is required and cost close to $300USD.
seems a bit pricy for what it is.

It is a copy of the Diamond mobile antenna. It uses a 6:1 RF transformer at the base, which acts more like a dummy load. On the proverbial 10 scale, it's a minus, and then some. Save your monies.

ok thanks for the answers, I have had screwdriver antennas and far to big for my car, fine if you have a big truck, but on a small car it looks a bit stupid !

So I think I'll look at the Chameleon V2L and see how that goes

thanks

Ah, but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!

I think this is one of the reasons folks buy short, stubby antennas, even thought they don't work very well especially on the lower bands. Even more so when they're clip mounted. It is just a case of how much of a performance hit you want to take in the name of beauty as it were.

Personally, I don't care what it looks like. There is some dude running around town with a Scorpion mounted on top of his Smart Car. He doesn't care either.
