Title: SDR SOS detector?
Post by: AK4YH on November 24, 2012, 12:12:54 PM
Hello,

Is there anything like an SDR software that scans for SOS automatically?
Just wondering...

Gil.

Entirely possible. An array of SDR's, or just one modern SDR with the capability of monitoring several segments of bandwidth simultaneously, coupled with some high powered DSP would do it. No different than what SETI has been doing for decades.

The QS1R can already skim 192 kHz segments of 7 ham bands at once in CW Skimmer Server.  There is no reason that it has to only skim ham bands and there is no reason why the programmer of CW Skimmer Server could not reprogram it to look for SOS messages instead of CQs and callsigns.  Entirely possible today with not much additional effort.
