Title: another TS-80s question
Post by: W4FBI on December 08, 2012, 11:39:56 AM
Subject should state TS-180s - not 80s

what is this? (found behind a two-screw panel on the side).

Looks like some sort of battery - or odd capacitor

Did you notice all the blue/green corrosion comming out one end?
Maybe the batteries need replacing.  Think maybe??????

Get that thing out and clean all the goop out before the rig is ruined.

#44 Alkaline button cells are a popular choice for things like calculators and larger watches. Three of them stacked would be about the right size for the battery holder and provide 4.5 volts, which isn't a bad choice for a memory retention battery...

Yes, I noticed the corrosion. (I just got this xcvr last week!) Give me a break, Allen!

I have taken the interesting battery "holder" apart - cleaned it out. Replaced the LR-44 corroded batteries. Bingo.
