Pending repairs I may be in the market for a used hf+6m   100 rig.  Suggestions  would be appreciated.

Yaesu FT-857, Icom IC-706

He wanted a decent HF+6 rig, not a "jack of all trades, master of none" shack in a box.

For mobile HF the TS480 is the best, infinitely better than any of the shack in a boxes. Fit the 1.8kHz optional filter for SSB.

I agree with our friend from across the pond...the TS 480 SAT or HX is the HF/6M rig of choice for mobile work

In response to the "Low Cost" Topic, I would suggest you take a look at the Alinco DX-70TH
They are a sleeper for a low cost radio, and can be found for around $400 -$550.
If 6m is not a must, then the Kenwood TS-50 is also a good candidate of around $400 -$450.

TS480HX 200 watts. decent receiver and transmitter. You also wont need a messy amplifier intsall. In a mobile  the 3db of extra power is worth 10 Icom 706s!

I use my TS480HX working DX on 75meter and 40 meters.  In shootout comparisons with friends who run 500 or 600 watt amps most stations cant notice the difference.

You can also use the TS480HX with remote rig via your cellphone internet service. I do this  as well  I have 2 remote heads one for the in car radio and one for the remote base. Its really funny playing fun and games switching between the two when  mobile.

Pending repairs I may be in the market for a used hf+6m   100 rig.  Suggestions  would be appreciated.

A used FT450 is the way to go.  Don't bother with getting an AT model with the built in autotuner, it isn't any good.  You should be able to find a used one for $500 or so. Built in filtering, builtin TCXO, built in CW memory keyer and voice keyer, and a good receiver.  Lots of rig for the money.

IC-7000.  Good radio and so what if it is a shack in a box.  Someday you might want to give 2 meters SSB a try.  Does FM too.  No need to buy a HF + 6 and then buy a dual band FM radio.
TMO - take it or leave it.

I own both an IC706 and a TS480 HX.  I love the TS480 but it larger and harder to find a good place to mount, and the remote head does not have a mike jack so you have to run an extender cable for your mike.  For the price on the used market you can't beat an IC706.  I my humble opinion it is an outstanding mobile radio.

I will second the FT450, no AT or D.  One heck of a rig for the money.

I first assumed that I wanted an all-in-one radio and read all of the reviews on the 857 and 7000 and started following the information being released on the 7100.  Some of the negative reviews concerned me and I knew that the TS-480 was a good radio, since I have been running a TS-480SAT for 2.5 years now in an internet remote role from my home and other locations where I have good internet access.  I also already have a Kenwood TM-V71A in my pickup and, when I stopped to think about it, I wanted to be able to monitor my EchoLink node and other VHF/UHF frequencies while making contacts on HF.  Therefore, I purchased a TS-480HX for the 200 watt output on HF for my pickup.

For HF mobile in my pickup, I am going to purchase one of the motorized type antennas for 10-80 meters.  I built a T-bracket to be installed near the middle of the bed and at the level of the top of the bed rails.  I mounted an electric linear actuator to be able to stand the antenna up vertical and lay it down to a near horizontal position from within the cab of my pickup in about 6 seconds.  That way I can go through the bank drive through and determine when I don't mind my pickup looking "hamsexy".
