Good luck to the team, and thank you for all the updates!

Their signal on 20 and 17M - even just using 100 watts to an R7 vertical - or half wave dipole has been S9 +20. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

I can't wait for 160 and 6M.

This should be like PT0S without as much European dominance.

I think because there are so many stations - and so many really great operators, all parts of the world should do just fine. Cycle 24 may not be the hottest thing under the sun [cymbal crash!], but anything seems better than 2008 - 2009 as far as propagation is concerned.

I have actually had more fun doing this behind scenes work than I ever would have expected. Its been a total blast - DX-ing - plus a skill I haven't done since the 70's - sending and receiving Health and Welfare "traffic" via ham radio to and from team members and their families.

And recording stuff and writing the blog - and updating the Web Site. Very busy - but very happy busy!

How do they plan on getting the ATV onto the Island?   It's not going to hold in a zodiac, at least not safely!

They brought a long snorkel.

They have a special large raft.

http://ky6r.com/2013/02/28/tx5k-has-landed/

They have a lot set up today (camp and infrastructure and life support) - and some start on the antennas. Radios will be sent to the island tomorrow.

I thought that is why they were called ATV's in the first place?

T=Terrain (not like dropping it into 30ft of water where the boat is anchored. ATV's don't float, at least not right side up, they quickly flip over and either sink or float with the tires up in the air, the ones that float are the bigger ones with huge tires the smaller ATVs just sink.

So, I think I worked them today on 17m CW, but my antenna isn't great and I am not 100% sure.  This same thing happened when I worked VP8ORK -- I almost did not log it because I wasn't sure it really happened (much trying, heavy QRM, and the 'was that my call i just heard them confirm or am i dreaming it?' phenomenon).

I seem to have better luck getting ATNO's when the East and West Coasts aren't closer to the DXpedition than I am  ;)

Anyone know if they plan to upload logs every day? Google helped me find this:

It sure doesn't seem like they are very active or have the best antenna setup yet, that's for sure. I don't see them spotted at all right now, and when they were on earlier today I didn't hear a peep on any band. I realize that band conditions are not the best, but Clipperton should be a easy one from my location.

OK, I guess that explains it was just ghost spotting. However, they have been on the Island since yesterday and haven't started operations yet? Did the forget to feed the squirrels for the generator or what? :)

I wonder what's taking them so long to go QRV.  I'm under the impression that they were going to bring the radios onshore today and start operating.  Any words on when they will go QRV?

This is TX5K - and is Luis at the mic. It is legit. DXA is not running right now. Just the first "lead" stations have been set up.

Hey Rich,

I had a QSO with TX5T before the DXA was running. I don't see my call listed when I plug it in to the "Call Search" on the DXA page. Normal? Or should I work them again on 40? I hate to dupe.

EDIT: Nevermind, I thought the DXA was working for a moment, but it doesn't look like it now.

DXA hasn't been running - they had to make the decision to NOT start up yesterday (late last night) and wait until DXA was set up - or just get on the air.

They decided to get on the air - so as not to lose another day.

Things will all come together now - (I hope) -  ;)

I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway - just for insurance.

Rich,
If keeping your fingers crossed is insurance for DXpeditions, I will hire you to sit in my shack!

So far, it sounds like things are coming together with this DXpedition.  I was able to grab them on 30 meters this morning with little problem, so an ATNO for me!!

Worked them on 10 meters about an hour ago... puny weak on 30 meters at this time. I should have gotten up earlier! But, good to see them QRV; and I'll sleep better when I see my call in their logs! ATNO for me as well!

Rich/KY6R, remind me what they are using for antennas?  After reading "Array of Light" I am convinced that phased verts on DXpeds are the way to go; is that what they are using?

They are using half squares and phased vertical dipole arrays. Right near the water.

I' ve heard them VERY well on 15 and 17m; weakly on 10m, here on the east coast.  I couldn't make it through the pileups, but their signals are great and I think I've got a good chance when the pileups thin out.  Sounds like there are some GREAT ops on CW and RTTY both!

Excellent antenna choice.  I hope the operators in Asia and EU are able to work them once the pileups die down after this weekend.

CONGRATS!

It was at 12:15z ... but http://www.dxa2.org/ (http://www.dxa2.org/) says I am not in the log.
Hopefully the 40m SSB contacts from this morning are not yet uploaded  ???

It does show that they have worked 2199 QSO's so far (858 CW 636 SSB 291 DIGITAL)

this was one of those times when i definitely heard him repeat my call correctly...

I sure would like to know if the QSOs from before DXA started running are included in the totals or not. (I can't believe how bad I've got DX fever.  ;D)

just checked KY6R's latest blog by realizing to do so I just needed to change the date in the web address and found the following reassuring note:

"PLEASE NOTE: if you do not see an earlier QSO in your DXA display – do not worry, the system will be processing backlogged log files, and eventually your “greenies” will show up."
