Title: TM-V71 remote mounting ideas???
Post by: N5FPO on March 03, 2013, 01:10:31 AM
Anyone have any low cost ideas on remote mounting the head on my Kenwood TM-V71a? The cheapest I can find the DFK-3D kit for is $50.00. I made up the cables myself, but I need to securely mount the head to the top of my dash on my Wagoneer trail rig, it needs to be secure and cheap. Is there a company out there who makes this sort of thing for those of us who believe that $500.00 for the radio ought to be enough?  Thanks in advance. 73 Mike

I have a TM-V71 that is not remote mounted so, your post made me curious as to how one could homebrew a remote mount kit.  The cable is the EASY part.  Coming up with a bracket to securely mate with the back of the  control head is NOT trivial!  You are not going to find any commercially available solution other than what Kenwood offers.  BTW it is offered for $46.00 at Ham Radio Outlet.

Thanks, yeah, I was hoping someone might make something that would work but I wasn't holding out much hope. You're right though about mounting these heads, I met a guy who duct taped his to the top of his dash, but that's not my style, I paid good money for that rig so I'm not going to mess it up, besides, I love my Jeep, I'd never put tape on it. 73
