Title: Curious - any single female hams want to chat?
Post by: KK4RXN on October 13, 2013, 08:36:29 PM
This post is very much a miscellaneous one - but I'm a 51 year old Christian ham that's never married and am told I'm a pretty eligible bachelor... So are there any female hams out there that might like to chat? I've tried meeting women on ChristianMingle, ChristianCafe, and others with no real success.

Figured I'd give it a shot here - I can always use more friends and am curious how many female hams there are out there. I rarely hear any!

Barry, no offense meant but eHam is a ham radio technical forum with many sub-forums dealing with the many facets of ham radio.

None of them, at least at the present time, are for matchmaking.  If you've decided to try here it looks like you've hit the bottom OM!

I'm dying to know where this thread's heading. ANYONE here meet his wife at a hamfest or such?

Long ago when I was in junior HS QST had a picture of a local YL about my age. She was gorgeous! I vaguely recall contemplating phoning her.

"wanna get together for code practice?"

I would dare say I've heard maybe 5 women on the air in the 6 months I've been listening, so I'm curious...

I can also see where this could easily go in the complete opposite direction, so to keep things on the up and up I can only say that I had my best luck (pre XYL days) in the meat section of the local Shop & Save grocery store. I was on the look out for a nice Catholic French Canadian girl so always kept my eye open for a girl with a gold cross neck chain buying pork for tourtier pies.

I met my XYL at the radio club when she was 16 (and with the highest class licence) and I was 29. Been married 30 years this September. She's very generous - came back from a business trip to Singapore on October 4, with a developing cold and gave it to me......and then went to Beijing on the 12th!

So try the radio club......

Yes, and now comes the war stories!  For example, back in the 50s.... GI in Bavaria....AM days, running phone patches for some guys back to the States.

A CN8 comes on (suffix withheld just in case this woman is still living....even though she wold be right around 100 years old) and she has the sexiest voice I had ever heard or heard since.

Now the guys in the shack aren't interested in phone patches anymore but just want to hear this woman talk.  The more she talked the more the shack sounded like a bunch of guys in a porn movie!

We found out about 6 months later when one of the guys ran across her at a ham convention in Frankfurt that she weighed 300lbs and had a face a dog wouldn't lick!

But what a voice...... I can still hear her after 57 years!

Bring it on...................

SINGLE MALE HAM SEEKS SINGLE FEMALE HAM.  Object is either a long-term relationship, or a close companion during contest season.  Must be nonsmoker with tower and tribander.  Amplifier preferred but not a dealbreaker.  If interested, please send photos ... of the tower and tribander.    ;)

Here XE0YL, Fifi Lopez,  shows off her... equipment.

One version of her card says she was a "glamorous model." Active in the late 60s and early 70s, this woman of mystery did have a beam. One card lists Collins equipment, 2000 watts PEP and a TA-33. She was a CW op said to have a good fist.  I couldn't find any XE0YL sideband QSL. No key is visible tho, but a costly BW sideband adapter can be seen.

Was she for real? Many have wondered about her exotic XE0 prefix which normally was used for novices confined to VHF. She doesn't look like a novice to me.

I'm not married to a ham, but I did date a couple.

In my youth (when I was about 18) I dated Inez, WB2URD.  She was very cute and petite (probably 4'11" and 110 lbs soaking wet) and we met in engineering school; she was an EE major a year ahead of me!

It was fun.  At that age, dating an "older woman" (even if only a year older) was worth bonus points. ;)

We didn't get married.  But at least I can say I dated a ham.  She knew CW and had a station in the basement of her parents' house, which was actually better than mine at the time. :P

Looks like Fifi's mic is plugged into either the O-scope or the HQ-180!

Jeff, if you're looking to hook up with a lady here on E-ham, just make sure you get all your information up front!  This thread reminds me of the late legendary K4NBN and equally legendary wife.  From an old E-ham Forum topic: "Have you seen the QSL from K4NBN? It is a nude picture of his wife, Magnolia Blossom, who weighs 643 pounds! He runs Del's Nudist Colony in Razorville, Florida."  Never personally saw the card, but many other hams have.

I married a ham, 13 years younger than me. Who objected to my choice of lathe  as being too small. Who insisted on me getting a new oscilloscope. Who said we should get an HP Spectrum Analyser. Who said we needed a milling machine and a shear. Who said the rig should go in the living room as otherwise it would be anti-social........ and so on. And even though she wasn't going on the air, complained when the tower had been wound down for 2 months. Plus loves steam trains - but does have me doing the cooking and food shopping......

No, even after 30 years, I'm not swapping! Find your own where I did - the radio club!

BTW, she doesn't have a sister.......

I did briefly date a ham, she was my age and met her through a radio club I was in during my high school years. She wound up moving to Australia some time later.

My wife is a ham now, although she didn't have a ticket when we got married.

I have spilled beer on my keyboard, some coming through my nose from laughing so hard,,,

From an old fart, find a good lady, one who you met at church or through a cousin or friend (hopefully no the bar scene), if she's interested she'll get her ticket, in the meantime you'll have a good life. My wife got her Advanced ticket (when they were available) in the second week after passing her tech class (KF5PL). She wanted to have the same ticket I did. Unfortunately cancer took her after 25 good years.

Current XYL is not at all interested in the hobby, but just as important, she doesn't complain about my involvement (or towers in the yard), but I must wear headset when she's around.

Best wishes on your 'hunt'!

In this day and age of ever-more and ever-better (or is it "bitter") microbrews that beautifully evocative wall of boatanchors could be well-matched with any number of supremely tasty choices.

Still, what's with the maze?
