eHam Forums / Elmers / RTTY on 10.129 Mhz?

I often here a signal that sounds like RTTY on 10.129 Mhz, but it does not tune in like RTYY, at least the normal ham RTTY. Can someone identify what this is?

eHam Forums / Elmers / Contesting software

I am interested in getting some contesting software, like for the ARRL Sweepstakes. Is there a general consensus as to what is considered best or are there just a variety of packages and opinions? I don't assume there is any such software for the Mac--at least I have not run across any.

Dean, That's a great hint. I will certainly use it when I get my FT-950. Now if I can just sell my IC-706.

Doug, I assume you are speaking about an external auto tuner that requires you to lower the power. What kind is it exactly. I just bought an SG-237.

Doug, Interesting that you mention the lack of a knob to change the power output. I notice a number of people mention that as a a failing. That would not bother me since I don't think I ever change my ic-706 from the 100 watt level. I wonder why someone would need to change their power level so much. Is it because they are using an amplifier or something?

eHam Forums / Elmers / Inverted L with counterpoise

Thanks to all, but especially K0ZN. Your post is extremely helpful. But your info makes me aware of a difficulty with my proposed installation. My inverted L would run vertically about 30 at the back of my house and then run horizontally over my house to a small tree in the front. That means that I cannot put down any radials under the horizontal section of the L. But I gather from your comments that any kind of radials would be better than none.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Inverted L with counterpoise

I am going to put up an inverted L for use with my SG-237 because it is the best I can do on my city lot. I can make it about 90ft in total length (30 ft vertical and 60 horizontal sloping down to 12 feet off ground), and I am mainly interested in 80, 40, and 30 meters. Questions:
1. Is there a particular length that should be used or avoided around the 90ft mark? 2. I was going to put down 3 counterpoises. What should their length be and should they all be the same length? Or should there be more than 3?
Thanks for any help.

I am looking to get a new rig and looking at the FT-950 and the IC-746 Pro. Does anyone have experience with both of these rigs who could offer an opinion as to any preference and why?

eHam Forums / Elmers / Dipole Question

"Traps are not required if you make a Fan Diplole and spread out the legs of the diploles in a circle to avoid interaction."
You apparently missed this statement in my original post:
"Another possibility would be a parallel dipole. I cannot fan out the ends, so I am concerned that this might be more difficult to adjust."
But the idea of a parallel dipole sounds more appealing as I think about it. I notice on another thread that WB2WIK suggests using small diameter PVC tubing (like 1/2") with holes drilled through them for the wires, spaced 6" apart.
