eHam Forums / Elmers / Help With PR95 Scanner and Dual Tracking
|

Hi there; there are numerous resources for help on the PRO95. You didn't mention where you are (city/state will do), so we'll just wing it with PRO95 specific info; Check out and/or join the following URLs: http://www.pro-95.info/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRO95/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRO-93_95/http://www.starrsoft.com/freeware/Win95/default.asp The Yahoo groups will no doubt have files that can be used by the Win95 program. Programming the scanner in this way will be a big help as I understand it's much simpler to do with Win95 then it is by hand. Now if you would say where you are, I might be able to find a Yahoo group for a scanning-related mailing list for your area. They too might have Win95 data files you could use. The PRO95 Yahoo groups can also tell you about which antenna(s) they found that worked well. User groups such as these are an invaluable source of information. Don't be discouraged if someone says they have a file for a PRO92 or 93. Don Starr (the author of Win95) has a nifty file converter that will migrate most of the data from the 92 or 93 to a 95. It's called WinXX Data Converter. Here's the URL (and I hope this doesn't wrap)... http://www.starrsoft.com/freeware/WinXXDataConverter/default.asp73s and GL....Mike Agner KA3JJZ links editor, Capitol Hill Monitors

eHam Forums / Elmers / What is the best base scanner antenna

A lot of people have been impressed by the NilJon antennas, both mobile and base. But don't take my word for it; check the antennas page on Rich Wells' excellant site, http://www.strongsignals.net The antenna and coax page will be must reads (and not just because I rewrote the antenna page, either). Standard disclaimer - I do write for Strong Signals, so my opinion is slanted :.)) 73s Mike ka3jjz@erols.com

Having done some public service work using HTs and handheld scanners, one of the biggest headaches is hearing the radio in the first place. When you are in the middle of a noisy situation, the audio from a handheld scanner is likely to be drowned out- headphones or a good quality earpiece is a definite must. Of course, there are many other considerations- batteries, antennas (who wants to be stuck in the back with a duckie that eventually breaks?), programming and so forth. To that end, to help you do some research on what's available out there now, check out: http://henney.com/chm/links/scanners.htm#REVIEWS Here you can see (and in some cases, order reprints) various reviews of handheld scanners- heck, some of them are right here on Eham. If you go below this section, you will find mailing lists devoted to various radios, along with a link for software that can program those that are PC addressible. Mailing lists like these are invaluable for finding information on a radio- who better to tell you about a radio than one who owns one? Finally, here's a very good site for Mass. freqs and news items... http://www.scanmassachusetts.net/ You might find out more about Mass's plans for digital here. 73s and good luck with your research...Mike ka3jjz@erols.com

Hmm,. I've been doing some reading, and found that Toyotas in general sometimes have problems in the fuel pump with them radiating noise (no, I'm not sure how!). Also have you bonded the car doors- your message didn't say. And it also might be time for an alternator noise filter; the message didn't say what kind of noise you were experiencing...

Well I guess the topic says it all. I want to get my FT8100 into the Camry- I do have the remote mounting kit, but I'm not sure where to put it. There are speakers in the back at the top near the trunk, so I can't put the radio there (too much chance of inadvertant RF pickup), and I'm having a heckuva time with finding spots for the speakers. Anyone? I am also interested in anyone doing HF mobile from the Camry. I'm thinking of putting a FT817 QRP rig in there, and of course, I'm looking for any hints for *real* grounds (as in where to find them!) and antennas and such. Any hints would be appreciated. 73s and thanx Mike ka3jjz@erols.com

Charles, I am going to be traveling to Vancouver on vacation this summer. I read your note on eham about the Internet Linking project some of their repeaters evidently use. Do you have a URL to look at? Thanx es 73s Mike ka3jjz@erols.com

Gene, this was a package that enabled the user to copy FAX and I believe it had some basic RTTY receive functions as well. However, Timewave bought out AEA about 4 years ago, and it is still listed on the Timewave website (under Amateur Radio/discontinued products- scroll about 1/2 way down). They are evidently still servicing this software. If you are looking for FAX software, there's no better site than the one Marius Rensen of Germany runs, I believe the URL is: http://www.hffax.de 73s Mike

Absolutly, but they are usually found in the 29 mhz range- usually above 29.5. Simplex/calling is 29.6, and most pairs are above this- for example, 29.66 out 29.56 in (100 khz seperation). Note, too, that they are FM mode. 73s Mike ka3jjz@erols.com
