Does anyone know what Laura's (or any ham from Monaco's) operating times and habits are???  Been in need of Monaco for sometime!  I have been checking the cluster to see where she has been, but everytime I miss being on the air when she's around.  What say you???

Seriously, I look at the DXCC list sometimes and just wonder why does this zit on the map, or this uninhabited rock in the middle of the ocean count as a country?  Is there some kind of criteria that the ARRL uses to determine this?  Also, do any of you guys feel that some of these places (for the reasons above) should be deleted off the list? And if so, which ones?

Dan:

I figured as such. I guess I am just going to have to wait until next time, when hopefully, the conditions will improve....:-(....

I am thoroughly disgusted with these conditions!  I could not hear anything, repeat, anything from this operation.  It seems that everyone up and down the eastern seaboard was hearing this operation when I checked the DX cluster.  I am not sure what to make of this. Yes I am running a G5RV, but for pete sake, I should have at least heard a whisper out of them!  And yes, I do need Market Reef! It's one of only 2 European entities that I have yet to work (the other being Monaco). Can someone shed some light on this?  Were they running QRP or something, or where the condx just too hideous to be using a skimpy antenna for receiving?Huh

Hey Ron, Thanks for the tid bit...When I get some time I will do that...I am very surprised that no one else has responded to this....These two guys were mainstays on the band (20m) for years....You would think that more than one person on here would know what is up either of these guys....Thanks again...

Chuck:

I0DUD became an SK in 1999, and all reports on the web indicate that all of his logs have been lost.

Or was it HV2SJ...I can't remember, but at any rate, I understand that the operator of this past Vatican operation has long since become an SK.  However, I put for the question:  Is there any chance of obtaining a QSL from this operation for a 1992 qso from some other outlet?  My guess is absolutely not, but I thought I would just throw this one out and see if anyone knows something I don't.  I guess I missed the boat on this one.

Not sure whether or not to post on the DX thread or the lost ham thread, so this one is going on both.  Does anyone know the whereabouts of these two well know hams who I have not heard on the bands for years?

RE: VP2MO -- I did a little research on Bobby, finding out he was knighted for his efforts during either a hurricane or a volcano eruption in Monserratt, and also that he was involved in a bad road accident where his wife was unfortuneately killed.  Bobby/Errol was one of the very first hams I logged as an SWL when I was a young man at age 18 and bucking for a ham license.  I remember it like it was yesterday as I was up late one summer night in 1984 with my Panasonic RF3100 and listened to Bobby work the pile up!  I was flabbergasted!  Had the pleasure of working him during a DX net three years later as a General Class Op.

RE: EA3OT -- Here was a guy who had a monsterous signal out of Barcelona.  Always enjoyed hearing Mike and his sig on 20 meters because it was so dominant and strong!  I am not sure I ever worked him.  I should check my logs and look to see if I have his cards. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

When does this take effect???  So I can print up yet another DXCC list.  This is will be the 3rd this year.  The other two were for Montenegro and Cook Islands and their prefix changes!  I wish these prefix changes would stop, at least for a while anyway.

Where can I find a web site with some on-line logs, more specificly for the current SMOM operation?  I am having a tough time finding one on Google, and the DX log bookmark I have is now giving me a "page not found" message.  Please advise.  Thanks.

I would also beseech everyone to consider what is good for the hobby.

I think so much of ham radio's woes today can be traced back to the "That's-the-way-I've -always-done-it-and-I'll-be-damned-if I'm-gonna-change-now" attitude.

Don't want to do a bunch of data entry? Fine, don't. But why not accommodate a lot of us new guys that *love* LotW and start today? It is so unbelievably easy if you have a computer log.

REPLY: First off, to re-iterate, I don't have a computer log. Secondly, the phrase "what is good for the hobby" sounds strikingly familiar to the phrase "for the common good," which indicates a certain ideology.  And yes, the paper log is the way I have always done it and and I am not going to change "for the common good." It's way too much work!  I work at work. I worked to upgrade my licenses.  I work dx with 100 watts and a G5RV and try to work thru the big boy pileups. It's bad enough that I get behind responding to QSL card requests that it becomes work.  For a hobby, that's quite a bit of work, and I am NOT going to make it worse by sitting at a computer entering every qso made since June of 1986 for the common good.  I am also not going to get into a war over this. To each, his own. Why can't some of you guys just let it go. Are you on the LoTW payoroll or something?
