Looking forward to this one, as we last worked and confirmed 7P in 1989. Can't wait!

1262  eHam Forums / DXing / @&$%#-ing Malicious Jammers!!!!!!! on: March 19, 2007, 04:56:15 AM

Yesterday, while trying to work HV0A, it was a disgrace!!! (as it is everytime this happens).....These people should be boiled in their own soup!.....How do you guys handle this?...Do you just ignore it and pray that they get tired and go away?.....And what are the ways to crack down on this sort of thing, if any???.....(Something tells me that this interference was coming out of EU and the FCC can't do anything in that regard, not that they would anyhow!).....What say you??..

1263  eHam Forums / DXing / Do you QSL Echolink QSOs???? on: March 14, 2007, 11:33:49 AM

I am debating whether or not I should make the effort to request qsls for these qsos....I wasn't going to bother, but after searching the log for YI1OM in Iraq for my echolink qso with him, I saw that I was listed in there as a 2 meter contact.  I have worked Thailand, Brunei, Bangladesh, and one or two other countries that I have yet to work on conventional (hf) ham radio on echolink....Please advise....Would I be wasting my time and postage?.....

Does anyone know how long Francesco will be QRV???..I have not seen anything in the bulletins even remotely alerting that the Vatican was going to be activeated..This is the first time in almost 10 years I have heard a sig out of the Holy See....I'd like to work him again under this HV0A call sign......

1265  eHam Forums / DXing / Operating from a Cruise Ship...... on: March 13, 2007, 05:11:58 AM

Has anyone done this? And if so, what are the proper channels to go thru to achieve such an endeavor?  My significant other (Melinda) and I are planning on cruising sometime this year to Bermuda, and I would most certainly be interested in working DX as a /MM. Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks.

1266  eHam Forums / DXing / What is your top 3 most "elusive" entiti on: March 05, 2007, 05:20:14 AM
Others that are not in the previously mention zones include Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, and countless puney islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans....Oh, and the only entities in Europe I have yet to work...Monaco and SMOM!....I just can't seem to get there either......I realize that I listed more than three, but man, I wish it were only three!....

Quite frankly, anything in zones 26 and 28....I just can't seem to get there!....Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Thialand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Hong Kong, Tiawan, and even mainland China.....When you run 100 watts and a G5RV, those parts of the world are just a chore to try and bag! Also, it's been a very long while since I worked Korea (South, that is!)....But I do have that one confirmed....

1268  eHam Forums / DXing / What have you worked at the bottom of the cycle? on: March 01, 2007, 06:30:25 AM
I've been stuck at 126 for a long while now.

REPLY: Don't feel bad, Eric...I have been stuck at 262 for a while now too....As I mentiond before, the only new ones I have worked (at least that I can remember) are Aves Island and Montenegro.....Anything else rare that has been on the air I already have, or can't hear due to us being on the down side.....That's how it is when you run a G5RV and 100 watts!.....And of course, repeat countries & QSOs are always welcome.....Don't worry, things are sure to improve in the coming months........
1269  eHam Forums / DXing / dx for generals on: February 27, 2007, 07:56:28 AM
When the sunspot cycle gets to churnining, 10 meters will be open wide all over the place, and your general license covers all of 10 meters.....But again (and we have been through this before in another thread) if you want to get into the DX game regarding the other bands, you have to upgrade to Extra....That's just the way it is....It's called incentive testing.....There is DX in the General Class portions, but the majority of DX stations don't operate there for obvious reasons (lighter pileups, less QRM, their country's band plans won't allow them that high).....If you upgrade, you can't go wrong....

ooops, sorry, forgot to mention the frequencies....

Aves Island on 80, 40 and 12 meters and Montenegro on 20.......That's probably it....The rest have all be repeats and garden variety DX, which is OK with me, as I love to DX and run into operators that I have worked many times before......

1272  eHam Forums / DXing / chasing dx on: February 22, 2007, 06:15:01 AM
Hi there!....Right now, the best places to get DX at night would have to be the lower bands of 40 meters and 80 meters, especially with CW....20 meters is good during the day most of the time this time of year with signals from South Africa coming in, but since you work during the day, you will have to wait until the weekends....And the weekends usually mean the bands are clogged with contests....The good part of that is that the ARRL WW DX SSB contest is coming up the weekend of March 3rd and 4th....Depending on conditions, you should be able to work a few countries, albeit they will be nothing more than the "5x9 CUL" drive-by type of QSOs......20 meters will not be open around the clock until the sunspot cycle gets churning, and will not become an evening DX band until the spring/summer, with signals starting out of Europe in the late afternoon, and late into the night to the Pacific/Australia/New Zealand....15 and 10 are just dead, but ya never know when an opening might occur, so they are worth checking none the less...This is just a bad time of year and a low point in the cycle, but don't let that deter you as conditions are sure to improve! Good Luck...

1273  eHam Forums / DXing / VK's on 20 Meters on: February 05, 2007, 05:02:53 AM
Hi Pete. Hate to tell ya, but your quest for VK's on 20 meters may have to wait a while. At least until the Spring Equinox. It has been my experience that during this current time of year, the signals on 20 meters from down under are very rare, unless the sunspots are churning with ferver.  If what I assume is correct (by looking at your call sign), you being on the west coast is a definite advantage to hearing VK's and ZLs, but your chances of finding them are better once winter is over. Check for them anytime after 0300z into the wee hours of the morning.

1274  eHam Forums / DXing / Junk Cluster Spots Part II..... on: January 19, 2007, 04:53:47 AM
I'll put up a duplicate spot to show that you can hear them in my location. So if there are spots showing from W4 and W5 areas I'll put up a spot to show the opening is to the west coast, too...

Now that DOES make sense.....

1275  eHam Forums / DXing / Junk Cluster Spots Part II..... on: January 18, 2007, 12:06:39 PM
I don't mind such spots at all. What I do find annoying are the "spots" that say "nothing heard here in Nebraska," or "NIL here," etc. Why spot what you're not hearing?

Ha Ha...I agree, Chuck.....that doesn't make sense either.....A thought just occurred to me...Maybe filtering has something to do with my questions....Hmmm.....
