136  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: What should very rare DX-peditions cocentrate on? on: April 04, 2013, 01:40:20 PM
When calling "by the numbers", concentrate on "Alpha Bravo 8". Smiley
When calling by the numbers...just  don't do it!! Call by continent or region, sure, and maybe occasionally by numbers just for Europe, but absolutely not for NA unless you're on a rare NA entity like the UN or KP1, where NA geography doesn't really come into play.

STRONGLY DISAGREE!....Do it, and do it quickly so everyone is satified in a timely fashion without worrying about the band dropping out....no more than 15 - 20 calls per area bang bang....Some of us are not as big as you, Pete...and may even be smaller once a move to a different living arraingment is made....I know you don't care, but some of us do......here comes the hornets nest!....LOL....

Hard to say.  Do you mean easy in the distance sense?  Easy in the garden variety sense???......Distance sense for me would have to be 4U1UN, but that's only because I had never heard them in all my years on the air until about 2007 or 2008....the same also applies for JX, Jan Mayan...HK0 Malpelo....and for PT0S as I missed several expeditions to there prior to this one......In the garden variety sense, I would have to say OJ0 Market Reef....at least it would appear to be garden varitety as they seem to be on the air every year in the Scandanavian Contests now.......I would have to give some garden variety loving to Antarctica too....been licensed for DXing since 1986 and never worked or even heard Antarctica on the air until 2010....then I was running into stations down there almost every other day.......wierd....

Anyone out there ever use it and  know how good it is?  I have done some research on various sources including on eham and the reviews have been mixed....What I am wondering is how good it is in breaking a moderate pile up?.....I am probably going to move into a duplex at some point and as per usual, land lords look at you funny....So who hear has used it for DX?....I am not talking Texas, California Canada or the Caribbean....I am talking into EU, Africa (at least) and such......I'd be curious to know your opinions....Thanks...

146  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: QSL Anxiety on: March 24, 2013, 11:19:51 AM
For some reason I seem to work all the hard to confirm guys in semi rare places,

I sent 10 cards a month back and not one reply yet,

That's the worst yet,

Thank God for LOTW or I'd be gone crazy, I even asked my mail man about missing post but I think he took it up wrong and thinks I am blaming him,

Trevor
EI2GLB

Man, I'll tell ya....I feel that pain....as I have mentioned in previous threads, my mail delivery just plain sucks eggs.....so much so that at one point, I had to complain to the post master that we were getting the mail too infrequenlty.....and just think how I feel, as I hve yet to do LOTW.....and don't know when I will ever get around to doing so.....Like I said, there are far greater crisis in the world.....at least that's what I keep telling myself...... Roll Eyes...............

ZL9HR -- Last heard, they have been out and a bunch of people have received it, per announcements on cluster. Which leads me to ask, anyone else out there still waiting for this one?Huh......

PT0S -- GOOD NEWS!!!!.... http://www.pt0s.com/qsl.html

JX9JKA -- Worked Svein twice on 17 meters during the contest weekend (a break for a non-contest qso).  I don't think he's going to be back in Norway for a while, but I sent out the QSL card anyway

P.S. Remember, fellow QSL card waiting DXers....Paitence!!!!!......... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes...............
148  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: QSL Anxiety on: March 22, 2013, 11:10:29 AM
Waiting for QSL Cards sucks.....It's just plain painful....and I don't care just how sactimonious someone is or thinks they are, we are ALL guilty of being impatient in waiting for the paper verificaitons of our qsos, especially if it's for a new country.....It's just human nature.....It's not a matter of life or death, and there are far greater problems in the world, though.....that's one way of looking at it......but, yes qsl card anxiety is an aggrivation that we as dxers all have...no question...

149  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Zone 29?? on: March 21, 2013, 12:11:16 PM
Zone 29 is fairly easy. Western Australia is essentially our antipode, but on an easy path. A bit of power and a wire should be more than enough. I've worked many back in my 500W/dipole days. There are vastly more difficult zones out there!

Amen!...Especially 24 and 26.....Perth, Australia is a big town....I am sure there are plenty of DXing hams in the metro area to work for zone 29.....which over the years, I have worked.....timing it what it's all about....

150  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: OK Time For A New Thread....How many of you DX on 60 meters? on: March 20, 2013, 10:35:07 AM
Just 4U1UN. That's it. No antennas for it, no interest in it either. Ten-four, channel 5!

You consider 4U1UN a DX Cheesy

73,
Jonathan W6GX

4U1UN is the toughest close DX I ever attempted to work and worked....Mainly because up until only a few years ago, I never heard them on the air......The toughest that was close to my QTH......so yes, it is considered DX....even moreso than California.....Geographically that doesn't make sense.....but from a new entity standpoint, it does because of it being relativly rare....Hope to work them on 60 meters!...... Grin.....
