151  eHam Forums / DXing / What was more memorable? on: January 16, 2013, 10:14:04 AM
The 59, c-ya qso to the rare one?  Or an actual conversation you had with a dx station?......In light of Paul's thread, I thought I would throw this one out there for $#1+s and giggles......This may have been a topic of discussion before, but I was wondering if that actual conversation with someone in another part of the world was acutally more memorable than the drive by shot gun qso for that ATNO.....I have had many solid conversations over the years with your typical garden variety stations.....and they were very much enjoyable.....I remember one qso I had with a fellow in Sweden about hockey......and another fellow in Ireland about the Pittsburgh Steelers.....to me, that's where it's at......"59 thanks" is ok for that new one, but other than that, it gets mighty old after a while......

152  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: What was your most memorable DX contact? on: January 16, 2013, 10:01:24 AM
Hi Paul!  Great idea for a topic...I know this will stroke some of you guys out there, but for me, it would have to be Monk Apollo, May 2002 20m ssb....there was a break in the pile, and I pounced as he had a very strong signal that day.....when he came back, I was doing cart wheels.....thats the most memorable dx for a rare one....for a gardent variety qso, it was to a fellow in Germany about 20 years ago who was nursing a cold....he made it known on the air that his medicine of choice was heavy doses of peppermint schnapps....and he would end each of his transmissions during the qso by yodeling......Too funny and totally unforgettable!......

P.S. As far as dxpeditions go, it would have to be the ones where I almost ran the table (band and mode (SSB & CW) wise) with multiple contacts...those being last years HK0NA and 2008's VP6DX.....as for other dxpeditions, the list is endless.....

153  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Anyone ever work Marc HS0ZJU???..... on: January 16, 2013, 09:37:57 AM
I appreciate the info...I am not sure, however that I understand this, though....I have only used paypal when requesting a qsl card from a dxpedition, where the site linked into paypal right after I would fill out the qso information.....When doing this, do I make the request online with the paypay transaction, or do I send the card via snail mail after I make the paypal transaction?.....not sure what to do...

155  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: What's an ATNO ? on: January 15, 2013, 05:50:27 PM
Have pursued all of the above to no avail for one reason or another....Every time I have seen them spotted, I can't hear them, or the Pile is too GD big, or both.....I remember back in 2008 hearing the Beijing Olympic stststation....really well too on 20 meters....but he was not hearing me....I was sick for a week.....it's situations like these, plus not having enough time, and well, that's the way it goes....Thanks anyway for the advice.....

157  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: 10 meters and WWII Wehrmacht Panzers in North Africa on: January 15, 2013, 04:12:58 AM
That had to be painful not to transmit during that time....I for one would have a tough time with that....but wow, reading through this thread made my morning...what a history!....Great stuff.....

78? Well if you put it that way.... Roll Eyes......My educated guess though, Bill, is that you have a bunch of the ones I need that are pretty common......(Monaco, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Iraq)Huh.....or perhaps I am speculating....anyway....I proabably have a bunch you need too......So much to contact, and not enough time.....frustrating, man!...... Shocked.....

More accurately defined... The singular reason I don't get much sleep anymore.

Lucky you....I lose sleep over whether or not I am going to have a job to go to, and aging sick parents, and the state of the country.....and who's going to try and pilfer money from me (the government)....and my own personal health.....yada yada yada.....must be something wrong with me!
