Glad to see we have many a baseball fan here on the e-ham board....good stuff....a hobby within a hobby....don't really remember seeing Bobby C playing, but around here, he is like Jesus....especially since there has been virtually nothing to cheer about since 1992 when it comes to baseball....very sad.....If there were one other team I would be into in the Majors, it would probably be the Cardinals.....They to me are the Steelers of the MLB.....They always seem to find a way to be in the thick of it every year...and when they don't, it's not to terribly long before they are back in the playoff fray....got to admire that.....the Cardinals and the Tigers, for Jim Leyland if for nothing else......

Vinny, The quote you have attributed to me was written by AD9DX. You are actually the forum's resident expert on these things but only came out of the closet today. The majority of my experience with nets was back in 1988 and 1989 as a new ham on a 15 meter net run by Denny, GW3CDP SK. He would get some nice stuff from Africa on so there were big pileups to even make his first list which was probably capped at about 10 or 12. Often times I could not even get on the list because there were many with beams and amps on the net. Those experiences are what make me believe a net is OK for a guy with a wire antenna or vertical and 100W but somebody with my current station should not be using them to pick up new one's. When I call CQ DX I actually generate a pileup so it would be overkill if I was currently working new countries in a net. Sorry Chris....was early in the AM and my glasses need cleaned!.....and I remember that net on 15 meters with Denny...he really was a character....I too worked much in the way of African stations on that net....it was big fun, as that was when the Cycle was in full swing and everything was new...I remember vividly hearing the news on that net that a certain Monk living in a certain DXCC place that is currently in demand was about to obtain a ham license to put that certain chunk of DXCC place on the air... ..OMG, I long for the day!......Go Buccos!...(HIT THE DAMN BALL!!!.... ..).... I have never heard a DX net but would love to listen to one to hear what all the Qis about. I don't like the idea of having a net controller decide who gets to work the DX, I would rather use my skill (or lack there of) to work the new one I need. REPLY: Obviously you have never heard a DX net, Chris. If you did, you would know that a net controler does not "decide" who gets to work the DX....Like it's an exclusive country club or secret organization or something...The net controller takes the list off of what he hears and if he/she hears no more they usually ask if there is anyone else that wants to be on the list....and if he/she can't hear any more, they will usually ask for any relays from the other net controllers on the freq...then the net control run the list and the stations decide who among the DX on the net they want to be spoon fed, er um sorry...want to work.....no fussing, no fighthing.....the DX that checks into the nets proabably don't want to deal with the mayhem that some people live for.....they figure, let the net controller handle that scene.....I seem to recall at one point and history, (and Geno, this will make your hair curl), that I actually ran a DX net for a while on 14.226.5, because the regulars weren't around...with my 100 watts and wet noodle....It was really kind of fun.....Much to our friends Geno, Pete, et al's happiness, there are not as many DX nets on the frequencies as there were 20 or 30 years ago it seems (maybe it seems that way to me because I havn't been on much).....but they are there....like it or not.....some of us like them, some of us don't.....the time has come to get over it and move on......again, can we PLEASE end beating this horse that is so, dead, it's carcas stinks? ....-PLEASE? .... Are there not still Official Observers out there???.....That is blatantly illegal.....One has to place blame on the DX station I think to an extent in this sense....If the DX is going to work state side in a split operation, he needs to know the state side band plan.....but still the state side stations need to know better too..their actionns should in no way shape or form be excused....where are the O Os?......not good at all....on either side of the ocean....

I really feel sorry for anybody on this forum who still uses nets for anything other than catching fish or setting up a tennis court. On HF, and for the most part, the only use I have for a DX net is to say hi to an old friend. If you've never known better I won't hold it against you, but if you need it now, after participating in this forum (or other, similar groups) you really have my sympathy--and I sure as he-double-hockey-sticks won't call you a DXer. A List-Lizard™ perhaps, but not a DXer.
With one and only one exception. Something ultra-rare. As in "top-10", with one operator authorized to be there who works HF in no other fashion. The guy on Wake was a good example, until the Wake DXPedition was announced. Work him once and once only for the counter and I don't have an issue.
Your own ethics and personal views may be different that mine in this regard but that's how this DXer views List-Lizards™. Right up there with kids, lids and space cadets. If you've done it in the past without knowing any better consider yourself forgiven. I said it before. I did, for a few months, before I got my head out of my @#$. If you still call into a net to work DX, and anybody else on this forum hears you, well....prepare for a Virtual Wedgie <grin>.
Like I said before Pete Baby!....PROUDLY ADMITTED to multiple net usage over the years without one ounce of the guilt you "competition seekers" are trying to lay on us......You can feel sorry for me and guys like me all you want....I told you guys many times....this is HOBBY....LEISURE TIME.....FOR FUN.....There is freakin enough in life to worry about and be stressed over than whether or not some old coddger who hasn't been laid since the Eisenhower administration thinks the qsos made on a DX net are not worth a hill of beans.....No need to feel sorry for me, man.....I am happy to obtain my dx as I see fit.....within the boundries of the rules and regs.....Like I said before, you don't like it?....Then you and Geno and others that share your belief go and petetion the ARRL and FCC to get them off the frequencies.....They will laugh at you.....if you are going to feel sorry for someone like me, feel sorry for me when I am in a pile filled with Lids, Screamers, Alligators, KC Cops, Banshees, Goons, Thugs, Pugs and Mugs....when I am desperately trying to get another new country.....Until I am able to get the QRO or Antenna that I crave for such an endeavor.....Don't feel sorry for me when I am working DX stress free and in an orderly fashions......Can we please let this freaking tired old dead horse finally die now? ......Damn!....we really need for these conditions to improve!!!!.... I'm placing my bet on Kingman. Both Kingman2013 and Kingman2014 domains are taken And the news said 'Big Announcement' 73, Jonathan W6GX Now Kingman is one that I do need....however, were there not rumblings about it going on the deleted list?......or was I mistaking about that???....if it's Kingman, that would be the trifecta of Pacific ATNOs for 2013....Wake, Banaba and Kingman.....that would be ok with me!.....if only we had sunspots..... RE: QRO -- I think I mentioned on the e-ham Amplifier threads that I almost bought an RM Italy amp at a hamfest back in Feb.....but 300 watts for $675.00 was not going to cut it with me....If it had been a 400 watt amp at that price, I would have jumped on it.... You can do a lot better than that if you look around. Even here on eham, in the classifieds, AL-811s and AL-811Hs going for very reasonable prices. My AL-811 (3-hole version) made a huge difference in what I was able to accomplish. Save up another hundred or so and look for an AL-80B (around $800 used) and you'll be laughing. Pete...got to tell ya, I would love to have the AL-811, but I don't think it would fit on my shelves....Look on my profile and see if there is a photo of my shack, (i think there is) and I think you will see what I mean... It's not that big: 8 ¼" x 13 ¾" x 15 ½". Move the Astron supply under the desk somewhere, put the tuner atop the radio and the amp beside it. The problem is, that tuner won't handle more than 100W, so budget for one of those, too. -- really, do you really need to see the meters? I have an RS-35M out of the way that I've never once looked at--it just sits there working 24/7 for 7 or 8 years now). Pete...that is an old picture....that little MFJ tuner has been replaced with another one that can handle up to a KW...the only thing is the new MFJ tuner (962C) is bigger than the 941B in that photo....the shack is not that big....it is literally the size of a walk in closet......It's an old converted fruit cellar, so I am really cramped.....(ok ok, lets hear all of the jokes...."you need to come out of the closet".."especially if it's a fruit cellar"..."there's a cure for cramps".....heard them all before).....but seriously, it is a very tiny space...... Ok, let me be the first to call P5. LOL you beat me to it I think Mr Un. should be in a very good mood right now for a nice American/South Korean DXpedition. If only Dennis Rodman was a Ham operator Dennis Rodman???...The only ham that idiot knows is the one he sits on!....Anyway, my guess is Mt. Athos too....because of the vid....maybe you guys worked out something with the monks....to transmit from a remote location away from the monasteries???......KP1, would be cool to .....be my first one in 22 years......of course these countries are not on my needed list of 58 remaining.....one of which is Amsterdam.....looking forward to the annnouncement either way.... THANKS for all the replies. I will admit, I am a little surprised at the results.
Looks like around 17 either think its OK, or have done it.
5 or so kinda or totally agree with me.
Around 3 who dont know what they think, or dont want to admit either way, or just want to be a smartass.
The results actually make me feel a LOT prouder of my DXCC totals, none of which had ANY help besides the spotting clusters.
Are net and sked QSOs tainted? ARRL does not think so.
BUT........ Remember this??? "W3***, 7R8NH* (THE DX!) IS ANSWERING YOU? CAN U HEAR HIM? HE IS GIVING YOU A 56...... 5 BY 6, OK? W3***, HE GAVE YOU 56...56...56. 7R8NH, SORRY YOU CANT HEAR W3***...... HE SAYS 52 5 BY 2, OK?? OK OK OK, QSL QSL. OK, THANKS BOTH OF YOU GUYS, THATS A GOOD QSO".
No further comments.
Thanks again/73, Gene AF3Y
