1  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Amount of radials for Verticals on: November 30, 2012, 01:28:10 PM
N6LF provided empirical information on this subject in a series of articles in QEX.  You can find the information at: http://www.antennasbyn6lf.com/design_of_radial_ground_systems/ under the heading "Series of QEX articles on ground system experiments".

This should be required reading for anyone considering installing a vertical antenna.
2  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: end fed wire plus helium baloon on: November 30, 2012, 12:57:05 PM
The lifting ability of helium varies with temperature, pressure and humidity.  A good estimate would be 60 lbs of lift for 1000 cubic feet of gas.  A little math and you get 1 pound of lift for just under 17 cubic feet of gas.  Keep in mind you need to add the weight of the balloon in your calculations.

DX Engineering has a great installation and tuning guide. You can download it from here: http://static.dxengineering.com/global/images/instructions/dxe-btv-inst-ins-rev0f.pdf
Tune the antenna AFTER you have all of your radials installed.

4  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: ARRL Hayes insurance vs. former Marsh Infinity on: May 31, 2012, 01:25:49 PM

Anennas were a different matter since there can be liability involved, and they wanted more information, photos and documents.

Did the agent or company go into any detail on the liability issues for antennas?  Unless you totally disregarded the manufactures guidelines for antenna installation and safety I can’t imagine an instance where you could be held liable.

5  eHam Forums / Clubs / RE: Club callsign at other stations? on: January 20, 2012, 10:54:16 AM
5)  Make certain that only one station is using the call at any given time.
6)  Have fun !

jp

What difference would the number of stations using the call on the air at any one time make?  The Canton Amateur Radio Club (Canton Oh) does a special event station for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Club members use their home stations and use the club call W8AL. In past years we've had as many as 4 stations all on the air at the same time.  Each station was on a different band and each contact was logged to make QSLing easier.

Here is a link to the owners manual for the 9100 series.

http://www.progressivedyn.com/CONVERTER_MANUAL.pdf

It contains some basic trouble shooting info. Hope this helps.

7  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: windows 7; 32 bit vs 64 bit. on: October 27, 2011, 01:23:43 PM
Go with the Windows 7 Professional 64-bit version.  The "Professional" version has the ability to run a virtual XP session that will allow you to install and use most of your older software.   The virtual XP mode is not available on the "home" versions of Windows 7.

There are several videos on the virtual XP mode at youtube.com.

From EN91 NE OHIO. I only heard one other station, W4IY from FM18 on 6 meters.
Called him several times, but alas the log is empty.

DX Engineering has a great installation and tuning guide for the entire BTV series of antennas.   You can download it here:
http://www.dxengineering.com/pdf/BTV-INSTALL-GUIDE-Rev0a.pdf
It will answer all of your questions.

10  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Power supply for Yaesu 8800 on: August 16, 2011, 11:57:13 AM
I'd like to recommend the Astron RS-20A.
It's rated at 16 Amp continuous and 20 Amp intermittent.
Many dealers have them for less than $100.00.
I bought mine in 1989 to power my Kenwood TS-440.
It is still going strong. (Unlike the TS-440)

Hi Bob,

I found an R7 manual on line here:

http://www.angelfire.com/planet/als_space/ham/Old_Version_Cushcraft_R7.pdf

It shows an 18 inch AF between TV4 and TV5.

Hope this helps,

You can download a copy of the 730 manual here:
http://www.usersmanualguide.com/icom/amateur__hf_transceiver/ic-730

The DC power cable for the 730 should be model
OPC-025A.

Hope this helps.

There is an "Open Office" version for Windows.
Check out www.OpenOffice.org

Also go to www.pdfforge.org and download PDF Creator.

Although not as full featured as Adobe, it will make PDF's and it's free.

15  eHam Forums / Elmers / Radio control software for windows 95 and IBM 380D on: September 20, 2007, 07:48:55 PM
Hi Bob,
WS2_32.dll was part of the Winsock2 update to Windows 95. It was one of seven files that made up the update.
KERNEL32.dll
OLEAUT32.dll
PyWinTypes22.dll
python22.dll
MSVCRT.dll
MSWSOCK.dll
WS2_32.dll

So just getting the WS2_32.dll file won't help.

HRD also requires Internet Explorer 6. IE6 requires Windows 98SE or better.  Win98 will need more RAM than you have. Strike 3.
