There is another club in Maryland that meets in Rockville. They have a very good repeater on 146.955 minus 600 and is open. I am a member of this club as well as LARG in Leesburg.

You might want to look into a mounting kit that Icom sells for the 706 control head. This kit is in addition to the seperation kit, It offers many ways to mount the head without drilling any holes. I use one in my Chevy pickup. As I recall, it costs around $35.00.
The problem with Velco is that its holding power is effected by heat and it mighy not offer enough rigidity when trying to use the tuning knob.
