Check Aluma Tower's website. I have a second hand Aluma Tower and that sounds alot like what I have, T40. 2 sections, manual hand winch, all aluminum, a stop on the top which is just a small piece of tubing and a spring tied to a rope that drops down close to the base. The raising cable is aluminum (steel?), and the down cable is made of rope on the same winch. Does that sound familiar? 73, Terry, WK0F

Nice shack! Are you referring to all the antenna switches in the middle? Can't see it very well. I am just looking for ideas for making a simple patch panel. I have a sheet of plastic (ABS), and will drill some holes for the bulk head connectors and mount it. I agree it would be a good idea to put the radios on the bottom row and the antennas on the top row. 73, Terry, WK0F

Hi, I have looked through past articles about antenna switches, and have decided to build a simple patch panel. I have the bulkhead connectors, but I would like your opinion on what would be the best material for mounting them in. Obviously, the patch panel will be located inside the shack for easy switching between antennas and my two hf rigs. Do I make it out of aluminum or copper and use it as a grounding block or do I make it out of some sort of non conductive material such as Lexan, etc for good isolation?
Thanks! Terry

Hi, I have searched the web high and low and haven't found alot about suitcase shacks. I have an IC-718, Astron switching power supply and a Dentron Jr. tuner I would like to put in a case. I would like to hear what others have been doing for portable operations. I'm not interested in backpacking, or mobile set ups, but rather the kind of hams that operate from motels, trips, etc. have done. Who knows, if I get enough feedback, I'll post a website with pics (if I get any). Thanks, Terry

I have the 1000MP and Rigblaster Plus. I had no problems interfacing them. My guess it depends on what software you're trying to key with. There are jumpers for the DTR and RTS lines and they need to be set up properly in the software. What jack do you have the RB+ plugged into? Feel free to e-mail me off line for more help. 73, Terry, WK0F t_ashland@yahoo.com

I used a Kenwood TS-520 mbile in the car while commuting to work every day (45 minutes). I had the Hustler resonators for 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters and the fold over mast. I enjoyed ssb, but really enjoyed operating cw while mobile. The stretch of highway was never very busy, so I could concentrate on copying CW in my head. I strapped a MFJ keyer (with a single paddle built in) to my leg. It worked great. One morning on a commute to work, I worked P29 on 20 meter SSB. It turns out this guy was a missionary over there. Ironically, a year later he moved back to the states, and believe it or not, just down the block. Thats pretty wild considering my little town in Iowa with just a handful of hams. I had a blast working mobile, and although I don't have the logs handy, I would venture to guess I had to be close to DXCC. Although I no longer commute, I recently purchased an ICOM 718 for mobile/portable use. I'm hoping to rekindle those exciting years of mobiling.

Has anyone used one of these non-iambic single paddle keyers? How do they compare to the Vibroplex Vibrokeyer? I have used the ST-2 iambic keyer and just can't get used to using iambic keyers. Thanks and 73, Terry, WK0F

Has anyone hooked up a Timewave DSP filter to an older rig like a Kenwood TS-830? How would you hook up the radio to the PTTI jack to mute it during transmission?

Hi! I just purchased a Kenwood TS-830S Gold on e-Bay. What is the difference between them and the plain ol' 830s?
