In NC the General Assembly wrote the law to take advantage of local enforcement of Part 95 to include a part that says that if the suspect has a FCC license of any kind, hands off.
Happy Holidaze!

If it is a drug unit that is using these portables in the 143 MHz range, it could make sense. Here in NC, both the CAP and the NCArNG use their air assets to spot MJ patches in the wild and communicate with LEOs on the ground in these and other frequency ranges.

In your case it would depend on what the SOFA says about ham radio. In some cases, the host nation issues ham licenses and in others, the US DOD issues licenses. Check with the J-6 at CENTCOM he/she (not the pervert kind) should know or beable to find out.

Well, the NETCOM CG, the MACOM for MARS, authorized it a number of years ago. I don't know the situation in DE, but often deployed MARS members work with Northern Cmd and various ArNG units when deployed in disater situations. So maybe they do it out of habit.
At any rate, there is nothing wrong with it, the USAF and USCG Auxilaries wear uniforms, too. That is all that I was pointing out.

Gary, the uniforms that MARS members wear are the approved "civilian uniforms" that the Army likes the non military folks to wear when participating with troops in the field. It has the persons last name over the right pocket, the organization over the left pocket (DAC, MARS, DODC, Boeing, FNC or whatever) and the US triangle that complies with the Geneva Conventions ID rules for camp followers either on the left shoulder or over the left pocket. It is also worn on headgear and outerwear, excepting foul weather gear. It is in the ARs.
If you are getting USAR retirement points for MARS activity, then the Army wants you to wear the uniform. They DA-1380 used to state that and may still. I don't know about the USAFR.

FEMA is now under DHS which supports RACES through grants to buy the radio equipment.
In NC, our ARES structure and RACES structure are parallel. That is the SEC is the State RO, County EC is the County RO, etc. Our organization mirrors the State organization and every State position has an EC on his/her staff as RO.

Yes, professional usually means doing a good job. You want that type of person in any volunteer endeavor, be it EMCOMM, VFD, VRS, Auxillary Police, etc.
I have a real problem with the "I'm just a volunteer, so don't bug me about how I perform" mentality. You should in any endeavor, strive to be as professional as the paid folks.
I say this being a retired paid LEO, a VFD officer, a volunteer EMT on a VRS and an auxillary police officer at various times in my life.

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Mobile, portable, or fixed?
|
on: September 02, 2007, 08:54:56 AM

As a general rule, a fixed station is just what it says, a portable station may be moved from place to place, but not operated in route and a mobile station is one that can operate in motion or stopped.
An Aeronatical Mobile is one outside the airspace of any country and a Maritime mobile is one that is not in the territorial waters of any country.
Hope that helps.

You might explain your probem to some adult hams and they can tell their state legislators.
The Republic of Texas' legislature just passed a law the prohibits schools from not allowing licensed hams to have their radios at school.

I think that it would have been after WWI started. Before then, hams just made up calls that were "registered" with the Department of the Navy. Commerce did not get into licensing hams until sometime after the 1914 start of the war.
I think that I'm remebering my history correctly, but I forgotten more than I ever knew. :-(

Lon, the Army takes folks at 18 and at 17, with parents written consent. Army MARS used to take folks at 14, I joined the day I was 14. However, the emphasis no longer is on preparing youth for their military stint. So, it mirrors the USAREC standards.

Well, no need for that. I think crooks are vile people and worse. Since he isn't in Black Africa, and there are no jungles in Portsmouth, I'm a soreback, so I know that, it was NOT aimed at him anyhow.
READ the post and you'll see I was talking about scammers in NIGERIA, not Portsmouth VA, I think that he was just looking to be offended, as a lot of people are today!
I wonder if all the people rising to the defense of those "jungle bunnies" are the "shippers" for the scammers.
