eHam Forums / Elmers / Help From Icom 756 Pro Users With Icom AH4 Tuner
|

Yes, I have read the Pro III manual, and looked at the various menu settings, but still not sure about this....
Question 1 is: I have external (mounted outside at antenna feed point) Icom AH4 auto tuner, so I assume I do not need to use the 756 internal tuner, in fact would NOT want to do so (correct?). Plus I assume if the 756 internal tuner is on, it would confuse the AH4 settings. I would think I would want the 756 internal tuner off, just use the AH4 external tuner. Is this correct? Thanks.
Question 2 is: I cannot figure out with the 756 Pro III menus how to turn OFF the internal tuner, so when I push the 'tune' button it will only activate the external AH4 tuner, and not, not the radio internal tuner. I cannot find menu setting that I am SURE turns off the radio internal tuner, allows me to only use the external AH4 tuner. Thanks.
PS: I have only had the ProIII for few days now, and trying hard to figure this out.
Thanks to any/all for info and advice. Ken, K6SI

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Auto Tuner Recommendations for Inverted L

I have an Icom AH-2a tuner, unused, in the box, $259 plus shipping. Same as AH-4, except made for 160 meters. AH-4 factory specifications 80-6 meters. AH-2a Icom factory specifications 160-10 meters. A4 will work if 160 meter wire long enough, but not built for 160 meters, see AH-4 specifications. Also of course you should have Icom rig, as Icom tuners need the Icom rig 'tune' interface. OK ALL..... I have read all comments. Thank you. Decided to put in about 2-30 shorter radials.... and trim the horizontal section of the inverted L to shorter length, keep vertical section at 40 feet. Thanks all again.

eHam Forums / Elmers / 160 Meter Radials

I have inverted L for 160 meters. 40 foot vertical run, then 180 foot horizontal run. Question is regarding radials. Am I better off with few, say 6 longer, greater than quarter wave radials, or several, say 12 to 15 shorter, less than quarter wave radials. All radials would be laying on ground, in the grass, and would be insulated number 14 copper wire, house type wire. Have not yet installed radial system. Thanks.

eHam Forums / Elmers / SB-221 No power out on 80 meter. Where do I start?

Appears you are not in resonance at 80 meter, why high plate current, no output.
Could be bad section contact on 80m band switch. Open part of 80 tank coil.
You need to be sure you are getting 80 m drive into the cathodes of the amp tube... not 80 meter drive, no signal for output to tune on.
Do you get response on grid current when you drive, not-drive, from the Icom..... maybe no drive into amp.
Don't run it very long on non resonance output, or you will cook the tubes.

Hello: The software I am looking for is not to practice or learn CW, I can copy CW. Looking for PC based software program that will copy, decode CW, and also allow me to send CW via my PC keyboard (that I already have conected to the transceiver for PSK31 work). Ken K6SI
