227  eHam Forums / Elmers / Upcoming IC-7600 vs. IC-756Pro3 on: April 09, 2009, 04:34:04 PM
The ICOM 7600 is being sold "NOW" all over NORTH AMERICA.I have a friend who has had is a week & loves it.I will outsell the 7700 if for no other reason because it has DUAL WATCH & the 7700 does NOT!The 7600 has SEVERAL advantages over a PROIII but for the AVERAGE USER a PROII or PROIII has PLENTY of bells & whistles you could EVER want or need. They are ALL very very NICE rigs.ICOM RULES! }:>)

228  eHam Forums / Elmers / IC-756PROII playing back recorded voice messages on: April 03, 2009, 01:46:05 PM
756 PRO II & III will ONLY record & playback for your pleasure & NOT on the airways!I had NOT heard that this would be possible with the ICOM 7600 which is now for sale in Europe I understand or at least they are taking orders for them!

229  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / Cushcraft 617B boomer 6 element beam question on: March 30, 2009, 04:47:53 PM
Appears to say,28-3/8 or 72.1 cm from my reading.I did NOT see a total length so you could subtract this from the remainder of the element length but I did NOT read the entire assembly manual either.Post your question on some of the VHF reflectors & I bet you'll get a 100% sure answer.

230  eHam Forums / Hamfests / ORLANDO HAMCATION 2009? on: March 28, 2009, 10:45:08 AM
I was wondering if anyone from the ORLANDO ham radio community could tell us how the turnout was for the 2009 HamCation compared to years past.It appeared VERY crowded to me & several others that attended & we thought the Friday crowd was as large as we have ever seen in 15 years.I attended Friday & Saturday & it appeared BOTH days were VERY WELL attended. Also have NOT heard who won the TWO "GRAND PRIZES" just for informational purposes?Anyone got the numbers?

232  eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Yaesu FT-8800 verses Icom IC-208H on: March 22, 2009, 01:04:25 PM
Well the ICOM 706 series of radios has sold MORE than ANY other ham radio in HISTORY.I prefer the 208H which I just installed in my 2007 Dodge Quad Cab TODAY.I removed & sold my ICOM 7000 because it was used VERY little on HF & I put an ICOM 746 PRO back in my shack as a backup HF & full time 6 & 2 meter SSB rig.It makes for a complete shack along with my ICOM 756 PROII for full time HF work.I have had a 706,706 MII,& Yaesu 857D & I'd take an ORIGINAL 706 over the 857D ANY DAY.ALL of the last couple of Yaesu rigs(857D & FT-2800)have had some SERIOUS issues & the ICOM's have had VERY FEW if any.My 2 cents worth.

233  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Drilling a hole thru mast on: March 14, 2009, 01:46:33 PM
I use a Yaesu G-800SDX with a Mosley TA-53M,M2 6M5X,& Cushcraft 215WB & have had ZERO issues with the rotor slipping & I did NOT drill my mast.As you know we have had SEVERAL Hurricanes & Tropical storms that have passed thru Florida over the last couple of years & I had NO mast spin. It's your choice so just make the one you can live with!

234  eHam Forums / Elmers / No Climbing Belt Pictures on: March 14, 2009, 09:13:43 AM
What protection is the hard hat when you fall off a tower? It will NOT stay on your head as you fall & if it did you would need to land on your head(breaking your neck)so it would even take some of the force.A bike helmet or open face motorcycle helmet would be MUCH safer & effective for the climber should they fall.Hard hats for ground crew is a good thing too protect from falling wrenches, bolts, ect.I would think the climbing belt would at least SLOW the slide down a tower & better yet it should be ran thru the tower as to PREVENT a fall IF it's a GOOD STRONG belt in the first place!GLAD that tower climbing is NOT my job!!!

235  eHam Forums / Elmers / repair at-120 or buy tarheel on: March 09, 2009, 01:56:36 PM
I "AGREE" the ATAS-120 is NOT worth fixing. For about the same size antenna the Tarheel II has better band coverage & a MUCH better signal BOTH ways.Of course a FULL SIZE model would be better but also MUCH larger! I almost forgot,"BUY a TARHEEL",ANY TARHEEL is BETTER than the ATAS-120!

238  eHam Forums / Elmers / ATAS 120 AS BASE WITHOUT on: February 03, 2009, 01:50:04 PM
You would be MUCH better off with even a SMALL 1/4 wave verticle in the attic for 2 meters than the ATAS-120A.It at best is a COMPROMISE on most bands.

239  eHam Forums / Elmers / Best antenna for HF/all band yaesu 857-D? on: February 01, 2009, 02:13:53 PM
You should NOT need ANY antenna tuner with ANY screwdriver antenna.Stay AWAY from the YAESU ATAS-120A antenna since it does NOT cover ALL of the bands & does a POOR job on the bands it is SUPPOSE to cover! I have NOT used either of the antennas your considering but BOTH companies make VERY GOOD antennas & either will do you a GREAT job reading their feedback on the web.

240  eHam Forums / Elmers / Icom IC-7600 on: January 22, 2009, 02:01:14 PM
The 7600 will have DUAL WATCH as well as 3 roofing filters,100 watts, but NO jack for a monitor from what I have read on the web.The 200 watts would be OK if I did NOT run an amplifier but I would RATHER have DUAL WATCH any day.If interested there is an ICOM 7600 Yahoo group with lots of photos & information.Looks like my NEXT rig for the shack. It looks like a BIG WINNER again from those wonderful folks at ICOM! }:>)
