I have the ICOM 756 PROII & use the HEIL PR-20 with the compression on HIGH,base at MINUS 4,treble at PLUS 5 without external audio gear & it sounds "GREAT" according to everyone I speak with & from what I have heard played back over the air and via emails! If you were NOT aware the PR-20 & HEIL Goldline PRO are the SAME microphone. In my opinion the PR-20 is the BEST mike for the money for the ICOM PRO series rigs & ICOM 7000 hands down.Email me for a schedule & hear it for yourself. My email address is my call at arrl.net so if you want to hear the combination you can!

I had a DK-3 & it worked "GREAT" for me.NOT one of the major companies but it seems that the DK-3 MAY have been the ORIGINAL screwdriver antenna or one of the 1st anyway & still around!Stay AWAY from the ATAS series if your interested in a GOOD signal.

Mosley TA-53M covers 10,12,15,17,& 20 meters with REAL gain on each band. The boom is ONLY 14 ft. long & it weighs 55 lbs.I've had mine up almost 2 years & am VERY VERY happy with it's performance.NEW price is around $900 shipped in the U.S.A. They make an upgrade kit for it that will also add 6 meters & 40 meters for a 7 band yagi on one boom! SWEET!! }:>)

What I see WRONG with the eham classifieds is the ONLY people hurt by the practice of NEW listings NOT being seen by NON SUBSCRIBERS is the SELLERS.MOST of the same item are ALSO listed on the QTH.com & QRZ.com listings WITHOUT these restrictions so what is the point here on eham?Just thought I'd ask since I have heard others ask the same question but not here on the feedback pages.

Just listen to the 10 meter band during openings here in the U.S.A. & you will hear LOTS of those CB amps.I here guys all the time BRAGGING about their Palomar, D & A, or Maco amps & how well they get out. They have NOT seen what I see on my spectrum scope when they transmit & MOST would NOT care what the band width is so they will NEVER change their CB habits! You can NOT fix STUPID after all.If this offends YOU then the shoe MUST fit your foot. }:>) "10-4 Good Buddy"

I have used both & PREFER the boom mike(HEIL PR-20) which I use today.I NEVER use VOX either. The headsets became HOT on my ears & head after long periods of usage.I had a HEIL Proset before & I think the audio was NOT as crisp either but it does have a different cartridge than the PR-20.I use the PR-20 with the HEIL FS-2 footswitch & a HEIL PL-2 topless boom now so it's always hands free operations & the PL-2 will reach me even when laid back at my operating position.SWEET combination for my usage! }:>)

I used CODE QUICK & learned it in 8 evenings at 2 hours per evening.Passed the test with straight copy. If it worked for me it MUST be GOOD & I "HATE" code!I have NOT used it since I upgraded since it gives me a BAD headache.SSB is the mode for me. }:>)

Speaking of SteppIR,has ANYONE ever read the E & H plane numbers on the SteppIR beams(any model)?I see these numbers for MOST all other companies beam antennas but I have NEVER saw even ONE such set of numbers for the SteppIR's so they can be compared with others HEAD to HEAD along with the rest of the DBD,DBI,F/B ratios & other numbers!Just thought I'd ask but like before when I ask them at SteppIR for these numbers they did NOT provide them and did get VERY upset with me for asking for such a thing.Guess they MUST NOT be very pretty or they do NOT even have them which would be a BIG suprise!Sure the SteppIR fans will fill the page with flames over this question as did the company on the phone. So go ahead & "FLAME ON" & I'll catch you in a pileup SOON!

eHam Forums / Elmers / IC-746 Pro ... Is buying this one a can of worms?
|
on: March 26, 2008, 05:14:54 PM

|
ICOM 746 PRO is a "GREAT" rig.I had one as my 6 meter 2 meter SSB & backup HF rig to my 756 PROII & traded it for a friends ICOM 7000 for my pickup.Had ZERO issues with the 746 PRO but wanted another HF mobile setup.Another local ham here traded his 746 PRO for a Ten Tec rig & missed it so much he bought ANOTHER 746 PRO to put with the Ten Tec.If you buy one leave the display brightness at 100% & that takes care of that issue as well according to ICOM.ICOM's are "SWEET" rigs no matter where they are made!100 watts on 2 meters,6 meters,as well as all of the HF bands & ALL MODE on ALL bands as well.Anybody else got those features?I don't think so!!!

ICOM repaired my ICOM 756 PROII out of warranty several years ago at "NO COST" to me other than shipping it to Washington State from Florida. It was repaired & back here in less than 10 days as I recall.I'll ONLY buy or use "ICOM" rigs here because they are the "TOP DOG" in ham radion gear bar NONE!The others should take some lessons on easy to operate NICE LOOKING rigs & quit building JUNK even at $12,000 prices on some!

Mosley TA-53M with the 40 meter kit covers 10,12,15,17,20,as well as 40 meters for about $1000 or so total on a 14 ft. boom.I do NOT know of any Quads with that many bands of coverage but it may be possible.80 meter beam would be VERY LARGE but they can be had for lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

BOTH rigs are NO LONGER being built. The 2100H was replaced in the ICOM line with the 2200H.The ONLY difference I can see in the 2100H & 2200H is the high power is more on the 2200H.I had a 2100H & it was a VERY good 2 meter rig.I now have the V-8000 & it is just as good plus the 75 watts output is nice as well for distant simplex as well as repeater operations!

eHam Forums / Elmers / Icom 7000 vs. 746 Pro - tried them side by side?
|
on: March 21, 2008, 02:23:35 PM
|

I traded my 746 PRO in February for a friends 7000.In my opinion the 7000 is just as GOOD if not BETTER than the 746 PRO.The 7000 is VERY close to being as quiet as my 756 PROII but NOT quiet.I am using the 7000 NOW in my pickup but used it several weeks in he shack before going mobile with it.If I were going to use the rig as a "BASE RIG ONLY" I would prefer the 746 PRO because of it's size ONLY!I am NOT much of a 440 band user so that made ZERO difference for my own usage or choice.I only used the 746 PRO on 6 & 2 meter SSB anyway in my shack & as an HF backup rig so I just no longer have 2 meter SSB at home UNLESS I pull the 7000 out for some 2 meter SSB(100 watts a PLUS)activity(NONE here in EM80 a LONG time)so NOT an issue for now.You will be VERY happy with either so ENJOY whichever you decide upon! ICOM RULES!!! ):>)
