MOST of the Ops are from Japan so NO SURPRISE that they are working their friends & fellow countrymen.Their signals into North Florida have been PATHETIC on most days & I think it's because the Spiderbeams are a JOKE for a serious signal anyway. They would be better off with wire antennas from what the Spiderbeams have provided in signals.May be the WORST DXPEDITION "EVER" or at least in the TOP 5. Is K1MAN "DEAD" or what? 14.275.0 is "SO QUIET" & has been all day long? I heard a RUMOR this morning that the FCC had shut down K1MAN & taken possession of ALL of his radio gear.NO K1MAN on 14.275.0 & VULGAR EXCLAMATIONS 7 KING FREEKING MORON now sitting on a HOT WIRE on 14.313.0 in Canada peeing his pants several times a day. I had an ALS-600 repaired SEVERAL times & each time they replaced ALL "NOT" just those that failed. This was a piece of GARBAGE of an amplifier in my opinion since it spent more time at AMERITRON than in my shack.I have had ZERO issues with the AMERITRON AL-811H that I replaced it with. WHY buy a radio that you must buy MORE parts for just to get the same features? The extra pieces also take up desk space.I don't get the ide why other companies can NOT make a COMPLETE RADIO in "ONE BOX" WITHOUT having too also by "Pan Adapters" or an EXTERNAL "DMU" unit? ICOM has the right idea & the right radio in my opinion hands down. They did it RIGHT the FIRST time & did NOT do it as an AFTER THOUGHT as it appears they did on the Yaesu & K3 rigs! Clayton W4KVW

When I have Ham radio MONEY too spend & HRO carries it I'm buying from Janet ONLY! {:>) Clayton W4KVW

HEIL & MFJ make MOBILE microphones & adapters for many rigs VHF,UHF,& HF radios. The small hole used is PLENTY big enough. Some of the NEWER microphones made by ICOM,Yaesu,& Kenwood have a rubber like material inside them too protect them from water & sometimes gets into the microphone hole & makes the audio weak & can be removed by taking the microphone apart & removing the stray pieces.I have also heard this same issue on some of the HT's on the market that have this material too prevent moisture from getting in.The audio is MUCH louder on an EXTERNAL microphone over the built in microphone. If the microphone hole is NOT clogged & the audio is not good it could be just a bad element. Most VHF/UHF radio's do NOT need a POWER MICROPHONE since you may over deviate & overdrive some repeaters audio. WELCOME to HAM RADIO & CONGRATS! Remember that as in anything there are BAD APPLES so don't be scared off by those whom are less than friendly in our HOBBY! Think out your choices of gear by budget, bands you wish too use, antenna's allowed in your yard,& do you want a single rig that does it all or several rigs too cover the wanted bands. All are important in saving you money & time & MAKING THE HOBBY MUCH MORE fun.ENJOY the hobby & GOOD "DX"! If you want QRP just turn DOWN the output power on a 100 watt rig.You will NOT have that OPTION on a QRP rig should you decide you want too get thru pileup! NONE of these rigs would have been on my short list(ICOM 7000 or ICOM 706MIIG)but whatever brand makes you happy.Make the RIGHT choice the 1st time & there will be NO REGRETS later! Clayton W4KVW

The bands could "WITHOUT" most of them.Weather reports can be found online if needed.Taking up good band space for the same bunch day after day after day, year after year after year! Make MOST of the 40 meter band "USELESS" during MOST of the day EVERY day! Clayton W4KVW

A 3rd grader can pass the General Class test with just a few days of study. If you want the band usage then STUDY & UPGRADE & if not then live with what you have.Myself I find that being a General Class gives me more than enough band coverage since MOST of my HF time is spent on the WARC bands(17 METERS is my favorite)& there are NO restrictions on those bands for a General that I would gain anything by upgrading to EXTRA! ACTIVE HAMS(most every day users)totals about 6 in the whole county(Baker County,Fla). The FCC list of actual hams in the county is OFF really bad since it still list at least 4 whom are SK & some hams live here that I know who have moved here but never did a change of address & are NOT active.Really only about 18 TOTAL hams that I'm aware of.One or two of the others get on the air maybe once or twice a month.Don't know why anyone would take the time too study & get a ticket if they were NOT going too ENJOY the hobby?
