You are going to kick dits when you take the test Mike!
Copying random letters, numbers, punctuation and pro signs is a lot harder than copying conversation.
You can go to the ARRL site and read the VE manual. It tells you everything that will take place, and explains the code test.
The test warms you up with a string of vvvv. Then the actual test starts the way normal Qs start with a call sign.
My 13wpm test had the op's name, location, antenna, antenna height (I think 6 feet), how many tubes in his rig, cloudy, age, etc.
I was nervous. So I choked on the call sign. But the Q ended with his call sign--I had two bites at that apple.
If you are printing, try writing script--its faster. You'll have to switch to script as your code speed increases.

Unfortunately, VEs are only geared to give 5WPM tests. No more 13 and 20wpm.
You can go to the ARRL site, and read all about the CW test in the on line VE manual.

I seem to remember that one could move the wiring harness around and either make the radio die, or come alive again?
I feel very comfortable soldering, unsoldering pcbs. But, I wouldn't suggest anyone try it unless you've lifted quite a few traces of pcbs and have gotten to the point where that is a rare occasion.

That might even be better Dale, "NOS" wire to go with the ST style 6L6G I'm using. The rock for 7.025 is FT 243. 0A2 and an 80 for the power supply. Bob

TKS John. Thru Google, I found cloth covered wire. But, so far nothing in black and white. Found some two color for auto ignition systems. Still hope someone has run into blocked black and white.
Dam pack rats here love to get into auto engine compartments, build nests, and much on plastic wires. Its not safe to leave a car parked over night in my driveway. They love coax.

OK. #18 bell wire is #18 wire.
But, my question is WHERE can I get #18 wire, with woven black and white banded insulation (as pictured in the 1948 HandBook)? Bob

Anyone know of a source for the old type of wire from the late 40's?
I'm building the 1 tube transmitter from the 1948 HandBook, and think it would be fun to use some of the black and white wire pictured in the HandBook.
It is identified as No. 18 bell wire, avaliable at any "5 & 10" or hardware store. Looks as if it has fiber insulation instead of plastic.
After the one tube is done, I'll start on the two tube!

eHam Forums / Elmers / Got DX!!! ...now what?

Yes. Via New Zealand.
One time I sent a card to a KH6. I put via USA on the envelope. He got the joke.
I doubt if any ham will get upset if you send a hand made QSL instead of a printed one.
In the late 70's, my first DX Q was with the UK. Since he didn't have any QSLs, he was kind enough to make a QSL. I still have it, along with another hand made one from KL7.
