2  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / An old project back again CALLSIGN lookup via TXT on: September 30, 2009, 02:08:36 AM
I have recently in my studies at school brought back to life my script that will send you callsign information via text messages.

**I do NOT charge for the use of the script or the information but beware that if you do not have a text messaging plan you may be charged by your carrier NOT ME!!  Also if you have low texting plan like 250 messages per month or the like then you will incure 2 txt's per lookup, one when you send my script the request and another when my script send you the information!!**

So with that said...

1) Type a text message to 41411
2) In the message body type CALLSIGN XX1XXX and substitute the xx1xxx with a callsign of your choice based out of the US ONLY!
3) Wait a moment then you should receive the callsign iformation.

Please feel free to help me out and I will format the data in anyway that gets the most requests.  Keep in mind I only have 120 characters that I can work with including spaces and line breaks.  I'd like it to be a well used script so I really want to make it display the info based on a collective suggestion method.

Thanks,
Chad Taylor

3  eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / PRB-1 on: October 02, 2007, 09:40:29 PM
I am interested in knowing how this all turned out in the end.  I hope you were able to get your variance from the county.

Luckily I live in area that the state has adopted a PRB-1 type law and that Nashville allows a 60 ft total height allowance as long as you at least half of the overall height available on every side of the tower.
4  eHam Forums / HomeBrew / Battery Generator with self regulating alternator on: October 02, 2007, 09:32:44 PM
My little emergency home brew generator is quite a little site to see.  I have more than one person comment on its looks and design.

I took an electric start backpack leaf blower and tore it down and removed all its parts that make it a leaf blower.  Then found an old pully off of a VW bus engine that fit it perfectly allowing me to use a V-Belt with it.  I next fashioned a bracket and mounted it to a small pallet (28" x 28" I think) then using a self regulating alternator I mounted to the pallet as well I was able to tension the belt and use it to run the alternator.  It is sort of loud but I suppose I could use a muffler of some sort just havent had the time.  Also on my list is an auto start by measuring the charged battery's voltage when it reaches a predetermined voltage I will have it use the electric start to fire it up making it fairly user friendly despite its heavy bulky design Smiley  Thought I would through that out there.
5  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Adding COS to an FT-2800M on: September 08, 2007, 03:54:35 PM
I am thinking of purchasing an FT-2800M radio to run my IRLP station off of.  It seems to be just the ticket for my little node here at home small, light weight nice heatsink etc.  I have found all the references in the world to hooking this little guy to a TNC but nothing mentions a COS.  I need a COS feed line for the controller.  Any suggestions would be wonderful!!  Thank you...

6  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / VHF Equipment/Router/DSL Modem Interference??? on: April 08, 2006, 04:46:24 PM
(I wrote the initial article, got my ticket in December decided it was time to use my call on here!)

I have just found it to be very annoying!  I would have never discovered the actual culprit had it not been for storms severe enough to disconnect my equipment for fear of power surges.  I live in an appartment complex and restrictions are so intense that I am not allowed to have an external antenna so mine is a mag mount stuck to the top of fridge.  All because I cant find a base antenna that will meet with complex requirements which is basically that it cant be any taller than 26in. and no wider than 24in.  which are dimensions of satellite dishes that they allow others to put up.  So for now I am dead in the water.  I  will never again live in an appartment.  I love the world of Ham radio to much to suffer this way.
