Has anybody had any luck in marrying your computer to the FT890. I've got the W1GEE interface cable that is for the 890 but there is no communication between the 890 and my computer. The software I'm using is WIN-EQF. 73 and thanks

eHam Forums / Elmers / PLAZMA VS LCD TV'S IN THE HOUSE

My thanks to those that responded. It appears that to keep hash out of the ham shack, stick to the LCD. I am going to take the advise of WA3SKN and take a small portable radio with me prior to making a decision. Thanks again to all. Graham

I'd like to know if anyone has had any bad experiences with either type of TV in their house. I've heard, but never actually experienced, that the PLAZMA TV can be troublesome. I'm going to be upgrading the TV for the good lady soon, and would appreciate any information there might be out there. The TV by the way will not be in the ham shack. If you want to contact me directly, my email address is gshortre@telus.netThanks in advance

eHam Forums / Elmers / Best 80-10 Meter vertical. Neighbour friendly

Thanks to all for your information and help. While I'd like to keep the beam and tower I've now got, the move will make this hard to do. There are restrictions in the subdivision that must be adhered to, and I want to keep peace in the neighbourhood. I've had almost 30 years with the beam etc., and have had a load of fun, but with advancing years, not wanting to climb towers anymore and wanting to make the move, I must consider the altenative to the tower arangement. I've used a vertical (18AVQ) when I first got my ticket, so I know the ups and downs of the vertical vs the beam. I had a ball with this antenna, and would expect to have a good time in the future. As ONAIR said, getting rid of the YL is cost prohibitive, so I will take all advise into consideration, short of P.O.ing the new neighbours and getting rid of the YL. It sounds like those that have verticals, install them properly have a lot of good times, so I'm going to join in the fun. Thanks again guys for the advise and the chuckles. See you in the pileups.

What is the best vertical antenna that covers 80-10 meters and will keep the YL and the neighbours happy. We're in the process of moving to a new area, and while there are no real restrictions (other than the YL)about beams and towers, my builder has suggested that to keep peace in the area, don't put up the beam and tower. The house is a two story home, and my YL would like me to place the antenna on the side of the house to keep it out of view as much as possible. I don't have a problem with getting rid of the tower and beam, but I do want to keep on the HF bands. I would really appreciate feedback from those of you that have had the same experience. I know that the vertical will have it's limitations compared to what I use now. 73 and thanks for your input Graham VE7ABC

eHam Forums / Digital / RTTY and CW with commodore VIC-20

Years ago, I used the same setup as you. The VIC20, and the microlog AIR1. The AIR1 just plugs into the game port, and wiring was as I recall very simple. Nothing complicated and no interface required between the interface and the rig was needed. If I remember correctly, one wire from the head phone outlet to the AIR1, and one cable (you make it up) from the AIR1 to the mike input. I used this set up on a variety of HF transceivers and had a ball. Wish I had never gotten rid of it. Is it state of the art, NO, was it simple, YES, can you have fun with it, and will it do cw and rtty with ease, you betcha. Send me an email at home. I'm going to check with a RTTY buddy of mine, he may have further information. If I ever run across either the VIC 20 OR C64 version of that combination again cheap enough at a swap meet, I'm going to buy it. 73.. de..Graham VE7ABC

Steve. If you can give me more information on this mutt, email me at home. I'll quietly put the word out, and see what I can find out for you. Any and all information will be helpful. Do you have an address that the rig was sent to, and how was it sent. I've found out from hams that I've bought or sold gear to, if you've had the US or Canadian Postal services involved, then this can become a Federal matter. My home email is gshortre@telus.net73..es..best wishes. Graham VE7ABC

eHam Forums / Elmers / KENWOOD TS480SAT

I've read all the reviews on this rig here at eham. I'm a little puzzled though about the transmitted audio. Many reviews state that the transmitted audio is of KENWOOD quality, but one recent review stated that he got back reports of "thin" audio. I'd like to hear back from those of you that own this rig and let me know of your own on air experience. I've got a chance to purchase either the TS480SAT or the TS850SAT. I know that the 850 has excellant transmit and receive audio, but the newer 480 is very appealling. If you want, you can email me at home. 73..es..tnx..Graham
