Here is a copy of the email to put this nonsense to rest. And yes, we do chat on the air regularly. =============================== Yepper because Amateur equipment does not have to be certified (type accepted), except the receiver section of anything that scans. Hope you all are well--sorry I haven't caught you on the air lately. very busy month. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Roth To: 'Riley Hollingsworth' Subject: Legal to own/use?
Riley, I have a Ranger RCI-2980wx “10-meter” transceiver along with a Texas Star DX350HDV linear. Together they can produce 250 watts SSB PEP on 28 MHz. Is this gear legal for me to own and operate on 10 or 12 meters? I checked them on a scope and found them to be very clean. Thanks, Joe-WC4R

Hmmm, wonder why HAMINTENNESSEE can't contact me direct? My email is available anywhere.
The radio in discussion here was given to me. A freebee I wasn't going to pass up (it's pretty). And the radio is legal along with the amplifier for ham use. I enjoy using it on 10 and 12 meters. Sure it can work on 11 meters but so will my Drake, Icom, and Flex. You just don't do it! I verified legal use of the gear with Hollingsworth myself. If you want a copy of his email, I can forward it to you.
Now back on topic, an update... KD8HJQ lost in court. He never even showed up. Judgement: Plaintiff $455.56 plus interest until paid.

Do not buy from KD8HJQ (Daniel). He sold a "working amplifier" to me for $300. It was a Clipperton V with a promise to obtain the tube. He did not refund the shipping charge difference, packed the unit poorly, it arrived without the tube and in non-working condition. Too dangerous to even plug in! It was in a flood and badly rusted. He made no attempt to disclose ANY out of the ordinary problems with the unit. I tried to send it back for a refund, he refused the package. I had to sue him in court. We'll see where it goes. Avoid Daniel Matheny! Pics at www.wt4ra.org/kd8hjq/dentron.html

I concur with the March 2009 'AM International Update' ER magazine article. In addition to 7290, two more spots for AM operation after March 29, 2009 make sense. Restoring 7160 as the historic AM frequency is a great idea. For the General class gang, something like 7185 looks promising too.

eHam Forums / Misc / 160m antenna ideas wanted

I've been a ham for over 35 years and only now have the space (barely) and trees to put up a 160m antenna. For a variety of reasons, I plan to build either a Carolina Windom or simple center-fed fed with ladder line antenna. My question is: which one? Have you used both? What was your preference & why? I like the CW since it seems like it would be a better performer but the 256' flat top may be just a little long. The ladder line version makes a lot of common sense and I can shorten the flat to to fit and the open wire should give me extra I need. I do plan to terminate the open wire with a 4:1 balun just outside the house and feed the coax to my tuner. (Sorry purests but it's not a perfect world). TNX all es 73 Merry Christmas! Joe

I read the 4CX800A/GU74B tube is no longer in production. TenTec has even discontinued their Titan III amp that used this tube. Nearly everyone else did too (ACOM, Alpha, Ameritron, QRO, etc.). I believe the Commander HF-2500 and AL-800H uses the Eimac however. At least there is the Eimac 3CX1200 and 3CX1500 around... for now. Time to look harder at those MOSFETS.

eHam Forums / Licensing / Does Advanced Class get screwed on upgrading?

No you did not get screwed. Good grief K9WMM! Take the stinking Extra test. Get over it. You had your chance (read: window). If my teenage daughter can pass the Extra, even you can. It is apparent you have forgotten what you learned, never built on it, never grew (just operated). Now you're afraid to upgrade because it's too much work for you. I feel sorry for you and your inability to be honest with yourself which is very clear in your posts. I hope you prove me wrong by passing your Extra along with hundreds of others next month. I look forward to hearing you on the new band segments then! Best of luck!
