1  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / IC 706 MKIIG Very Low Output Power on 2m and 440 on: February 04, 2012, 06:55:05 AM
I have a problem with my MKIIG that I discovered during the last VHF contest. Very low output power on 2m and 440. So low in fact that a Bird watt meter needle does not move. I can still access my local repeater and did make a contact during the contest that was close by. I can hear clear audio on my HT on both bands. This low output is present for both FM and SSB. I looked at a block diagram and I suspect it is the PA transistor or driver. Is there a way in which I can confirm this?HuhHuhHuhHuh??. Also the power output on HF/6M is good.
2  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Mirage B215 on: January 24, 2012, 06:41:41 PM
I need a manual/schematic for a Mirage B215. It is the pre MFJ 1985 version. MFJ does not have it. I have tried the Internet and have only found docs for the B215G which is not the same. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
3  eHam Forums / Good Seller / Buyer Beware / M6DLP on: January 18, 2012, 04:59:07 PM
There is a person with a bogus callsign out there. His call is M6DLP. His actual name is Mike Palmer. His QRZ.com page looks ok but he is is not on DXZone or Hamcall. He is a crook and will rip you off. I have alerted QRZ.com to review this. I have also alerted the RSGB.
4  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Pro-Tek Tubes on: January 05, 2012, 02:26:05 PM
has anyone had any experiences with Pro-Tek tubes???. They are sold by D&C Electronics. Are they legit or are they Chinese copies with a silk screened logo on them??

I have an Ameritron AL800h that has a tube with intermittent flash over. I verified this with a hi pot tester. It was suggested to me to put a glitch resistor in series on the HV line to absorb the current spikes. I am not confident that this will be a long term solution. A new tube will be pricey. I have been told about medical pulls. Does anyone know where I could get one(none on Ebay).
Also is there any pro/con info on the Pro Tek brand as they are cheaper than Eimacs

8  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / SB 104 Help on: November 02, 2009, 07:21:16 PM
I am in the process of restoring an SB104. Here is the problem. I keep getting a warble sound on receive. Adjusting the VFO does not eliminate it.I have Scoped the power supply which is the heath supply and all looks good. If I move the power cable the problem moves to a different frequency as shown on the display.I also have the same symptom when I wiggle the coax from the B board to the balanced modulator board. Any ideas?Huh

Bob

thank you for the response. Before I get too involved with the radio I want to give the power supply a clean bill of health. I have the matching supply HP 1145 and I am measuring 200mv pp on a scope. It also appears as a sine wave is this within specs of the supply?
10  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / sb 104 help on: March 12, 2009, 09:17:44 AM
I am in the process of restoring a Heathkit sb 104. there are some problems with the reciever. I am doing the obvious checking solder joints and cleaning contacts. My question is this. on some of the boards it is apparent that there were mods done. for example there are added components, and missing componernts. i have to believe that this could be a result of mods applied over it's life. Is there a place I can go that has all mods listed so i can reference these changes.
11  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / NCX 3 help on: February 04, 2009, 09:17:53 AM
Thanks for the response. I suspect the rig was modified at some point I will have to go through the schematics to verify. I suspect the 7551 is a cheaper tube than the 7360 thus the change being made.
12  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / NCX 3 help on: February 03, 2009, 06:17:25 PM
I am restoring an old NCX 3 and i have it most of the way done. I tested all of the tubes and they were all good except for the balanced modulator tube it had signs of gas. My question is this the chassis label says 7360
and the tube label says 7551. Is this a normal substitution . Was there a rewiring of the tube socked? The doc I have makes no reference to this.HuhHuh??
13  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / National NCX3 Power Supply Help on: January 05, 2009, 06:27:11 AM
I am restoring/repairing an NCX 3 power supply. I replaced the leaky caps and low and behold I discovered one of the rectifier diodes was bad. I know I need to replace all four but I have been unable to locate a source for replacements or a cross reference for a substitute. The diode in question is a 1N2359. It has a PIV of 1600 volts and current rating of 4 amps. Ebay has none and Mouser no longer stocks them . Can anyone help me with a source or direct substitute?Huh?
14  eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / National NCX 3 Help on: December 18, 2008, 05:28:58 PM
I recently acquired a National NCX 3 and power supply.
The receiver works with great audio. On the xmit side however I have the following symptoms. 80 meters produces 125 watts into a dummy load while 40 and 20 meters barely produces 35 watts. Aside from things such as bias, wafer switches and drive to the grids of the finals what should I be looking for that could be possibly be unique to this radio.
