31  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Cuban Stations on PSK31 But Not JT-65 - Why? on: February 24, 2012, 01:14:28 PM
Its quite possible the computers they have are old and not fast enough. I've tried twice and failed with two different computers to have JT65HF work properly and with all the problems it created for me to transmit 13 letters I decided to stay where there's more activity, PSK 31

If your contacts can read Morse code there should be no problems, its quite a bit different from the normal rubber stamp contact but I like people who think about different ways to do things.

33  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: What we need is auto-mode-detection! on: February 04, 2012, 11:45:09 AM
I find the same irritation when I've seen an unusual trace. The callers always give short blasts and then vanish when they don't get a response. Users of PSK 31 have much longer CQ calls because its slower, but even some people using 31 seem to think a couple of quick blasts of their call sign will get them a response.

34  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: some nut case ve7kfm on 14.272...... on: February 01, 2012, 01:41:48 PM
The world has gone mad, never expected Canadians would become as a barmy as the European government departments. So a person can leave recordings running on a loop while he leaves the shack to see his relatives and people are still able to enjoy his selection  of vulgarity. Then everybody says "there's nothing we can do ! "

Are people allowed to run unattended in Canada ?

35  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: 14.220MHz - What's the problem? on: January 30, 2012, 12:39:22 PM
This is one of the problems with people listening on spot frequencies, and with conditions the way they are we can't hear anyone at the other end. There's plenty of space on 20 metres so to prevent any aggression its easier just to slide up or down and call again

36  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Pactor or Clover BBS/Mailboxes? on: January 30, 2012, 12:34:56 PM
I don't think you will find many, or even any people using Pactor these days. The new free digital modes wiped out Pactor and the anger created by the BBS's which blanked out many contacts and the band width of the mode made it unpopular.

37  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Can the FCC Determine How Much Power I'm Running? on: January 18, 2012, 02:07:11 PM
Considering all the illegal activities, vulgarity, and bad language I would think the FCC has more to do in a day than sit around listening to conversations between amateur radio operators

38  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: History of the Ø call sign geographical region. on: January 14, 2012, 12:11:47 PM
I have a British call with a zero 0 but I don't put a slash through it because it seems the PSK people don't like it.

39  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Elevated Radials - 3 Questions on: January 05, 2012, 02:00:18 PM
Hello Rich,   I read a number of years ago that having four raised tuned and resonant radial wires produces the same result as having dozens of wires under the soil. Its a controversial subject and quite soon there will be a reply stating that this comment is all balony ! Having some wires higher above ground than others will not affect reception.

40  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Cushcraft R8 problem on: December 31, 2011, 12:41:40 PM
You can't buy replacement traps for any of the old Cushcraft antenna's. If users of the R5 and R7 verticals had put waterproof tape on the top of the traps the problems with rainwater would never have occured. If you have one, and you haven't, then I suggest you do !

In another place this would get the IB4TL.

42  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Soundcard hangs up on 12 meters on: December 23, 2011, 01:17:30 PM
Seems as though you have RF affecting computer. If the antenna is a vertical perhaps about 6 turns of the coax or put some ferrite clamps on the coax at the feedpoint

43  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: No dealers prices on top transceivers? on: December 19, 2011, 01:59:38 PM
You will have to go back a long way to find magazines with prices printed in the advertisements, for any product you can name, and when there are prices with specifications for cars usually its for the top of the range model at the maximum selling price. Competition being very fierce you haggle for the best price in the showroom.

44  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: Falkland Islands rare? on: December 18, 2011, 01:09:09 PM
It isn't rare, if you have the propagation ! The US and south America are experiencing the best conditions for many years, unfortunately the same good conditions are not being experienced in Europe. Its been a very long time since anyone in the Falkland Islands will have had a contact with the UK

45  eHam Forums / Digital / RE: Not enough hands . . . on: December 11, 2011, 02:02:12 PM
I can't help you with Morse code but if you have a keyboard causing RF I suggest you wrap the cable around a ferrite ring at the connection to the PC.

Thinking about your problem perhaps you should make Morse style macro's, meaning the same format that you use when sending by hand, the PC does the sending for you, then do some rehearsing to understand the procedure and smooth the presentation
