eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Hexbeam at 10 Feet vs Hustler 6BTV
|

I recently moved to a house that has antenna restrictions. Since I have a couple trees on the rear of my lot, I plan to install either a Hexbeam at 10 feet or a Hustler 6BTV vertical ground mounted with 24 radials behind the trees to reduce the visibility of the antenna. Do you think the Hexbeam installed at 10 feet will outperform the 6BTV vertical ground mounted on 10-15-20 meters?
Thanks,
Reggie

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Zero-Five 10-40 Ground Plane vs. S9 31 foot Vertical

I recently moved to a house that has antenna restrictions, so I am thinking about installing a Zero-five 10-40 ground plane or a S9 31 foot vertical with about 16 radials. The antenna will be installed behind some trees to help hide it. Which one do you think will give the better performance on 10-40 meters. I mainly work SSB, PSK31 and RTTY with 100 watts or less?
Thanks,
Reggie

eHam Forums / Mobile Ham / Pictures for Mobile HF Installation in Tacoma

Hi, My friend recently got a new 2009 Toyota Tacoma, and he planning to install a HF rig and a 2M/440 rig in the truck. He is trying to do a "good" mobile setup, so I was wondering if anyone could email him some pictures of your installation of the rig and antenna. Email to: rjo601@yahoo.com Thanks, Reggie N3OP

eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / Hustler 6BTV Without 80 meters

Steve,
Thanks for the input. I have installed a radial plate and added 16 25' radials (14 gauge) so far. This weekend, I plan to add an additional 32 radials to bring the total 48. I ordered the vertical today, so I should have it on the air by Sunday.

I recently moved to a house with HOA, and I plan to install a Hustler 6BTV vertical antenna. Since this antenna is about 22 feet tall, I plan to install it without the 80 meter section to reduce its visibility. Will this affect the performance on 10-40 meters?
Also, how would the performance of a 6BTV vertical without the 80 meter section compare to a 20 foot wire (14 gauge) vertical antenna connected to a remote autotuner?
Thanks,
RC

eHam Forums / Elmers / TGM MQ26 Vs Cushcraft MA5B

I have the MA5B, and I have worked over 200 countries with it on SSB and PSK31. The MA5B will beat any vertical antenna, and it is less nosier. When I compared my MA5B to a G5RV, it was 2 to 4 s-units stronger. Occassionally, the receive signals were the same, but most of the time, the MA5B was louder. As for the T.G.M. MQ26, the MA5B has a wider bandwidth; however, the T.G.M. gives better gain on 12 and 17 meters. I have used both antennas, I prefer the MA5B. Reggie www.n3op.com

When I want to know that a band is open, I listen for the beacons or check the DX Clusters. Theses are very effective tools. Give them a try, and you may be surprised with what you find out there on the bands. Reggie www.n3op.com

I have both rigs, and I like both of them. I prefer the ProII for serious DX work, and I like the TS-2000 for all around use. Although the TS-2000 costs about $1000 less than the ProII, it works just as good for most SSB contacts. The TS-2000 selectivity is not as good as the ProII. I am able to tune out adjacent stations better on the ProII than with the TS-2000. Furthermore, the ProII has an excellent scope, but the TS-2000 will work on 2M/440 and includes the satellite modes. I guess it comes down to how you plan to use the rig. If you are on HF most of the time, I would keep the ProII. If you use HF, and 2M/70cm and you plan to use satellite, I would get the TS-2000.
