1  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Rules for designating a special event callsign on: Today at 01:41:39 PM
There is no way for multiple calls to be attached to a specific SE call for the same time period.  If you apply for the call, you will be responsible for the behavior of the other stations using the call.  This has worked out well for the stations involved in the 13 Colonies Special Event, over the Fourth of July holiday.

2  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Don't need SIGNAL REPORT for valid QSO? on: Today at 01:37:12 PM
The most fun you can have during a contest is moving hundreds of people up the band by posting a fake exotic call on a DX reflector...  Hundreds of people calling a station they didn't even hear because it didn't exist..  Clears up the portion of the band you are really using for contacts..very quickly the most fun you can have during a contest..  BTW don't use you call on the internet reflector sign in with a different call..

That isn't the most douche-baggy thing I have ever heard, but it's close.   Undecided   Let me see if I have this straight: you don't like dealing with the same interference that all American amateurs are required by regulation to tolerate, so you pose as someone else, post a false spot and think that'll clear "your" frequency (to which you are by no means entitled) for more than a few seconds?

If that's your idea of "fun", you really ought to get out of your mother's basement.  Because to normally socialized humans, that's called "being a pr!ck."

Bob WP2XX

Bob, you got it wrong.  This scumbag can't possibly have anything that resembles a "pr!ck".
3  eHam Forums / Contesting / RE: Field Day Logging Software? on: Today at 01:30:25 PM
N3FJP, hands down!  Our club has used it as a networked, field day logging system for years.

4  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Don't need SIGNAL REPORT for valid QSO? on: May 21, 2013, 10:27:51 AM
Having once made the mistake of putting a 47 RST on a QSL card, I now put either a 59 or 599 as appropriate.  The Ham that got the 47 E-Mailed me to berate me for not giving him the 59 he DESERVED, irrespective of the fact that his signal WAS a 47.  After a flurry of E-Mails were exchanged, I ended up filtering out his several addresses and he FINALLY went away mad but, he did go away!
5  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: Wouxun KGUV6D V2 HT Flashlight LED Voltage? on: May 21, 2013, 05:29:15 AM
Comparing the brightness of the "flashlight" LED on my UV6X, to one in an actual flashlight, I get the impression that they are running the UV6X LED way beyond it's ratings, to get that level of light from it.
6  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: Windows XP - the end approaches...... on: May 21, 2013, 05:17:01 AM
Bottom line here is that Microsoft will force some major customers into the LINUX camp.  When the cost of software rewrites, to accommodate the latest-and-greatest version of Windows, exceeds the costs of rewriting to the LINUX platform, coupled with the lower cost of the LINUX OS, productivity software such as OpenOffice and required hardware, the money will drive the decision making process.

Keep in mind that there is a significant amount of text-based, business software still in use today.  The Windows environment is not always the best fit.
7  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: All the billionaries are investing in empty boxes..hurry before the bubble burst on: May 18, 2013, 03:16:45 PM
Unfortunately, the box would have to be in "mint" condition to command that price.  Now the problem is to figure out how to get the tube out of the box with out opening it!  Mr. Scott, beam it up?
8  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: CD-47 Vortex Desktop Charger - Lights? on: May 17, 2013, 05:35:40 AM
The charger for my Wife's VXR-5 behaves the same way.  It can take up to 24 hours if the battery was fully depleted for the red light to stop flashing and even as long for the green light to come on.
9  eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / RE: Onstar Antenna Reuse for VHF/UHF on: May 14, 2013, 04:49:57 AM
What an OnStar antenna consists of is a cellular phone antenna and an active GPS antenna combined in one housing.  Neither of these will work for Amateur VHF/UHF.
10  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / RE: PowerWerks on: May 10, 2013, 09:16:17 AM
No problems with any orders.  I think you need to give them a chance to correct the error BEFORE you decide to go into a public rant.
11  eHam Forums / Satellites / RE: Will they update SAT status on Amsat.org? on: May 09, 2013, 01:41:11 PM
You are right on!  I had not looked at the AMSAT status page for a while and it does lack a WHOLE lot compared to the previous incarnation.
12  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Kenwood TS-2000 Save power settings on: May 08, 2013, 11:29:22 AM
While there is a provision in the command set to set/read power level, the radio does not store this setting for an individual memory channel.
13  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Who made the 2-element "Bowtie Bantam" beam? on: May 05, 2013, 06:44:05 PM
Are you thinking of the Butternut HF5B Butterfly Beam?

14  eHam Forums / Station Building / RE: Single flexible coax from basement to roof. HF, 2m, 70cm. on: May 05, 2013, 06:03:27 AM
How about a pair of these: http://www.diamondantenna.net/mx2000.html

Specifications:

Port:    LPF/BPF/HPF
Frequency (MHz): 1.6-60/110-170/300-950
CW W: 400/400/250
PEP W: 800/800/500
Loss dB: .15/.2/.25
Isol dB: 60/60/60
Mix Connector: SO-239
Port connector: PL-259 & 12" 5D cable

They are NOT weather proof so the outside unit would need to be protected.
