eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / Operation within 1 block of Hospital??

There are hospitals, often being some of the highest buildings in an area, that have a literal forest of antennas, of all types and frequencies. Some even have HF antennas. I don't believe that antennas a block away are going to be any more significant than those.

It would seem to be feasible to connect a Bluetooth RS232 port device to a TNC equipped mobile rig and send commands/date from your BT enabled Compaq. The communications between the Bluetooth devices is 2.4GHz and essentially unlicensed but, it is above 220Mhz so it should make the FCC happy. If the TNC is sending your call at the proper intervals as part of the packet/APRS data stream, the ID requirements are met. I would say to give it a try and report the results back to this thread.

eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / advise needed, where to procede?

Yes, the architectual committee may have not met for a number of years but, the covenants are probably still in force. Additionally, some covenants have a clause similar to this one from the subdivision where I live:
2. If the parties hereto, to any of their heirs of assigns, shall violate or attempt to violate any of the covenants herein, it shall be lawful for ANY PERSON owning real property in said subdivision to prosecute any proceeding at law or in equity against the person or persons violating or attempting to violate any such covenant and either to prevent such violation or to recover damages or other due therefore.
If your fellow property owners don't like what you are doing, they don't even have to wait for the board/committees to act. They can cost you a HUGE amount of money just to defend yourself!

Think about making the flagpole the center of a planting area. This will make it very difficult to actually touch it. Also, try building a box around the base that is tall enough to hide the insulator section, coax, etc. and possibly house an antenna tuner. This could be faced with brick, wood or other approved material. Low profile is the watchword!

eHam Forums / Antenna Restrictions / Antenna Restricted Try ECHOLINK

Echolink, while fun at first, is a really poor replacement for amateur radio operation. What we need is some rights to erect reasonable antennas at all locations. Time spent talking on the computer is NOT time spent talking on the radio.

"Antennae. No television, radio or other antennae shall be erected on any Lot which extends above the highest point of the roof line of the Living Unit which it serves. All antennae located on the ground shall be screened from the view from outside the lot by landcaping or compatible structures designed for such support".
Per the FCC, they have to allow an antenna for reception of over-the-air TV broadcasts (this applies to TV antennas only). This has been interpreted as superceding CC&Rs to the extent that if you cannot receive all local stations with an antenna below the roof line, they MUST allow a higher antenna. Of course, you will probably have to go to court to get them to allow it.
Best bet: forget this deal and keep looking if you want to erect outside antennas!
