1  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Trade Radio? on: October 10, 2012, 05:33:57 AM
I have  had both Radio's and I got rid of the 718. being able to enter frequencies via the keypad is a nice feature however the 450 has many more features. IF DSP is one of the important one's. But like cars every one has their preference. I have an FT-2000 and use the FT-450 for my 6 meter operations.

Just up-date the filters in your 920 and it will perform as well as any other.  I have an ft-2000 it replaced a FT-990 that got hit by lightning! Sure wish I had it back.  However the FT-2000 is very good,  I play in the contests and haven't had any problems with strong nearby stations.

Thanks for all the help.  I'll give Ron call. I don't know about the LED's not much room for resistors, I'll have to check that out and see what I need to change over.

5  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Just Thinking on: April 24, 2012, 07:22:11 PM
Just a quick up-date on my post.  I'll give you a quick background on me.  I've been licensed for over 50 years, also hold a first class commercial with radar endorsement.  And have been building and programing computers since the parts to do it were available to us.  Now some background on my question I have owned and operated almost every piece of equipment Yaesu has built, and presently have over $10,000 worth of Yaesu equipment in my shack now, So I'm certainly not a yaesu basher.
I purchased my little FT-450 to replace an aging FT-900 in my Moter Home.  And was disappointed when yaesu told me they were not going to update this radio.  So I wrote them with my displeasure of this decision and did not get a reply,  as I understand many who wrote didn't,  and then just a few weeks from Dayton with top Management coming from Japan out comes a notice that well yes we will release an up date but not until summer.  Well I stated it in my orig. post it could be a ploy,   but I guess a better term might have been a stalling tactic.  At any rate sounds strange to me since there is not that much difference in the 450AT and the 450D that this would entill another 6 or eight months to accomplish. At any rate perhaps I am naive and clueless some of my friends say I getting senile...
However, I'm not going to drink the Cool aide until I see the space ships landing..

Is it just me or do any others feel that perhaps Yaesu's announcement that an
up-date for the 60 meter band for the FT-450AT will be this summer. I find it
strange that it will take so long, and am wondering if it's just a ploy so they
don't catch hell in Dayton. What's the thinking??

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu FT 900 problem on: November 29, 2011, 03:46:22 PM
I am experiencing a strange problem with my FT 900.  After I turn it on in about 45 min. the receive on sideband and CW disappears.  The S meter continues to function and no blinking display.  However, the receive on am and FM continue to work.  There's no transmit on sideband or CW or am. But there  is on FM.  I can turn off the rig and after about 15 min.  Everything is back to normal.  Anybody have a suggestion where I should look!  I've tried everything I can think of.  Sometimes the radio will play for days.  Other times it  quits working after only a few minutes.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Being an RV'er I use one to spot check the temp of my tires when I stop, sure a lot easier than croling under the Motor Home and checking each one .

9  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Does State Farm insurance cover ham radio equipment? on: September 10, 2010, 01:11:33 PM
I had a lightning strike last Oct. and State Farm replaced every thing that was damaged at the replacement Cost for simular equipment, and that included my Antenna's.  Great people to deal with

Thanks for info. the switch has 5 positions and single layer.  I'll check on the ATR-15 switch.  We have a hamfest this week end perhaps I'll find something there.

CQ does and they have some nice awards. Don't think there is a way for the ARRL to do it yet.

15  eHam Forums / Elmers / 17 meter antenna,, on: October 19, 2006, 08:27:42 AM
You can use Two 17mtr ham sticks and purchase a center mount or build one to make a dipole. contact
Cedar City Sales. They have a web site and have a kit for this, the advantage over a fixed dipole is you can rotate it.
