I have AT&T U-Verse with the DSL. I would gladly trade problems with you. I could care less if they had to replace the damn thing weekly but mine wipes out 80 meters from 3.5 to 3.675 and all of 40 with a S-7 to 8 blanket of white noise and then spikes all over the bands up thru 2 meters.
As per AT&T's time honored response; they're sorry but you can go pee up a rope! We don't make the thing and the manufacturer (probably in the basement of some Chinese brothel) won't respond.
The FCC who is probably in AT&T's pocket is even less help.

Reference the first part of your question; The milliamp rating on a primary cell (pack) would probably not exceed or exceed by much that of the rechargable pack so no real advantage there.
You failed to mention if it was a new or used unit. Either way it sounds like it may have some issues ...... one being the battery, the charger or both.
If it is new, you may want to check on the warranty situation.
If it is used........oh well; a lesson learned and hopefully for not too much.
You may want to check your "shift" key, is appears to not be working.

Thanks Jim. I'll bet with a reasonable understanding of this material a person could 'slam dunk' the First Phone (or what ever it's called now).

P.S. I forgot to mention that on commercial repeaters and perhaps a few amateur repeaters that want to transmit a CTCSS tone, it is reintroduced past the transmitter's band pass stage.
I have run into setups where the input and output tones are different. That's more of a commercial thing though.

Hi Jeff,
As CTCSS tones are below the 300 hZ to 3 kHz. audio band pass of the repeater's transmitter, you will not, or I should say, should not, detect the tones on the output.
If you had a rig that would decode and display the CTCSS tone being used you would have to listen to the input frequency to get it.
It has been suggested many times that all 'open' repeaters in a given area use the same tone but apparently that made too much sense.

Always start with the easiest stuff first.
Check your manual, pop the top and look for a little slide switch....it has two positions, 50 watts and 100 watts (marked on the PC board).
If someone has been poking around its kind of easy to bump it to the 50 watt position. If that's not it and the problem is else where, at least you haven't worked your head to the bone checking it out.

Several years ago I lived on a real hilltop about thirty miles south of St. Louis. I had an Icom IC-275H to a 19 element boomer at 90 feet. This gave me a pretty easy 300 mile plus range on SSB and CW.
At the time 144.144 was the defacto PSK frequency. I made several posts on eham and would sent CQ for a half hour almost every night while slowly rotating the beam.......a total waste of time.
I did make a few skeds via e-mail with a station or two at about the 325 to 360 mile range. The results were a little disapointing.
At extended distances, 2 meters has some phase shift; not enough to detect by ear but enough to cause copy problems with a perfectly readable PSK signal.
Other digital modes may work fine but I found PSK to be not quite up to the task of extended range work on 2 meters.
Maybe if some more people would put down their 'walkie-squawkies' long enough to try some other modes and stir up some interes, much PSK fun could be had.
