91  eHam Forums / Elmers / Well, I gave it a shot. on: November 17, 2009, 07:55:57 PM
Most of HF is unusable for me and even spikes up on 2 meters.

I've isolated it to the damned AT&T's u-verse with internet and wireless internet.

AT&T refuses to do anything saying their ONLY responsibility is providing the service you are paying for.

I documented every everything and filed a part 15 violation complaint with the wonderfull FCC.  After three months I received a form with another complaint form and a form letter telling me basically to go piss up a rope.

Your neighbors TV in not supposed to interfer with any licensed service and must accept any interference from same.

What I'm trying to say is the FCC is as worthless as the rest of the damn government.....pee away the taxpayers' money and the hell with helping anyone who may really need it.

......and YES, I am grouch especially when I don't get a kiss first!!!!!!!!!!!
92  eHam Forums / Elmers / Mirage B3016 2 meter Amp on: November 13, 2009, 09:36:29 PM
If it is an old 'brown face' they were dripping with design flaws.

The pre-amp was the most outstanding followed by crappy relays.

He does seem to be operating on a different plane to be sure.
94  eHam Forums / Elmers / Wall Wart Voltage Accuracy ? on: November 12, 2009, 10:06:13 PM
There are wall-warts for charging....they rely on current limiting and the over voltage is unimportant to their task.

Ones designed for battery elimination usually are much closer to the specified voltage.  They usually have a higher current rating.

The ones that do both normally are more closely related to the eliminators and rely on current limiting built into the unit they were designed to be used with.
95  eHam Forums / Elmers / My local BMV screws up ROYALLY! on: November 10, 2009, 08:40:12 PM
Yeah Terry,  I may not know much about "retetive" but  after near 30 years on the force I can sure spot an "ANAL"!

Have to stoop to name calling do you?......tsk, tsk.
97  eHam Forums / Elmers / My local BMV screws up ROYALLY! on: November 08, 2009, 06:16:40 PM
This is supposed to be an 'Elmers' page......so, is there a question in your diatribe somewhere??
98  eHam Forums / Elmers / IC-735 Display Color on: November 04, 2009, 07:53:53 AM
No, they only came with the green, however, it is just from the green bulbs that were used.

I got tired of trying to find the 'greenies' as they burned out so I finally replaced all of them with regular clear miniture bulbs; With a little ingenuity they can be mounted in the bulb holes with little to no trouble and you will have the 'yellowish' lamp and display.

Check out Scott's (MTS web site for some info on LED replacement..........
http://www.angelfire.com/biz2/mts/backlighting.html

That will be my project the if the time comes.
99  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / To: Icom 735 users on: October 30, 2009, 07:25:35 PM
I doubt if Icom will do it as it is an unapproved mod.

It will open up the entire range of transmitting BUT you will be taking a chance with spectral purity as it exceeds the design of the radio and the internal filtering.

If you insist on cutting the diodes, I would suggest nipping them in a position where you can re-solder the leads if need be....especially if you sell the rig.

Your intentions may be righteous but the next owner may not be as pure of heart. 10-4!?

BTW: I have only tried 60 meters once and found little interest in 'channelized' operation but, it did work with my 'opened' 735.

101  eHam Forums / Elmers / Icom PA final failures? on: October 24, 2009, 06:18:44 PM
This just makes me love my old 730 and 735 all the more.

They are from the time when radios were built like tanks and men were men and the sheep were scared but they just keep plugging along.
102  eHam Forums / Elmers / tell me there kidding please on: October 24, 2009, 06:12:34 PM
Assuming this is a serious question...and I suspect that's a long shot,   807 is an old, old ham slang for a bottle of beer.
103  eHam Forums / Elmers / USB to Serial for digi modes on: October 21, 2009, 12:49:38 PM
Allen,
Yes, they make them.   I have one I used for a Toshiba with no serial plug to connect to an older Garmin GPS.

It worked, albiet SLOOOOWLY,

I used it once when I wanted to try PSK.  The interface I had was seriel only too.

It also worked but it would not key the xmiter,,,had to do it manually.

BTW...It says. usbgear.com.  I found it on ebay and it came with a driver for the 'puter.

Bob
104  eHam Forums / Elmers / Buxcomm 10-80 meter windom on: October 08, 2009, 07:01:50 PM
I found it to be well made and using good materials.

Mine isn't really high enough so the resonant frequencies are a smidge below the bands but my Icom AT150 auto tuner lets me skate on all but the very top of 75.  (there's little of interest there so for me it's no big loss)  A wider range tuner, or me developing enough interest in getting on the air anymore to lower it and fold a few feet back on each leg would do the trick.

I took Buck's advice and went with the 4 to 1 balun instead of the 6 to 1.

An OCFD is an OCFD is an OCFD so it ain't no 5 element yagi at seventy five feet but for what it is it does a pretty good job.

105  eHam Forums / Elmers / Splicing Coax ?? on: September 21, 2009, 07:49:53 PM
The way to do it was shown in several old military manuals so it seems to be an accepted, al biet tedious method of repair/addition.

I do not recall if any frequency limits were listed but I would suspect that it would be fine on MF and HF.  Up to 6 meters, maybe, if the run is short.

One last caveat; the tensile strength will be reduced.
