Just retired a year ago and decided to get back into radio. So yesterday I opened up my new icom 718 and built a 20 dipole to just do some listening till I can start putting up my antennas on the roof. I turn it on and Have huge noise 7 to 8 sunits on all bands but 10 and 12. So I read about how my dish network could be the problem and unplug it but the noise is still there. So this morning I get up and use a 12 volt deep cycle battery from my boat and start tuning breakers off. Finally the radio s meter drops to nothing and I can listen to people talking on 80 with my dipole laying on the floor in the basement. I look at the breaker panel to see which breaker it is and of all things it's the refrigerator.
its a whirlpool 7 years old. So I'm asking any suggestions? Is there something made to combat a refrigerator?
