2  eHam Forums / MARS / RE: MARS MOD FT-897D on: November 21, 2010, 09:21:19 PM
I had Houston Amatuer Radio do my MARS mod for me 4 years ago.  I only lost the Spread spectrum option. no big deal in my opinion.  Very Reasonable; I think at that time it was $75 which included triple pack shipping. Ask for George or Charlie.
3  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: New ARRL Website on: April 18, 2010, 01:07:23 PM
Maybe eventually the ARRL staff will learn the difference between a LOG IN Name and the word REGISTER.
They tend to be experts about nothing and use the 2 terms interchangeably.

Maybe it will get better, but they are the "experts".
4  eHam Forums / Misc / RE: Any use for analog TVs? on: November 28, 2009, 12:21:21 PM
They can be used for video screens for old demodulators like the M-600, M-6000,  or possibly as an accessory for the IC-7000 to get a larger screen.  Correct me if I am wrong on the 7000.
5  eHam Forums / Misc / HAM-MAG the free "E-magazine" for HAM Radio ? on: October 14, 2009, 02:01:28 PM
also had a picture a few months back on finding the antenna...it was in the background with a very good-looking "healthy" maiden in the foreground... lots of fun trying to find the antenna...alas, no contact info.
6  eHam Forums / Elmers / Does The Owl Really Work? on: September 10, 2009, 01:53:08 PM
No. A better solution would be to check with your local agriculture extension service to see what they would recommend.  The owl would work for a few days until the birds get use to it, then they would land next to it or left "markings" on it...
7  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Radio Shack on: June 08, 2009, 07:40:17 PM
They started going downhill when Charles Tandy, SR. Passed in the late 70's, '79 I believe . MASSIVE heart attack.  John Roach (appropriately named) took over and it began the slide downhill.  Mr. Tandy cared about the CUSTOMER, Roach Coach did not.  I worked for them then  and after Mr. Charles' death. Roach wrote a book, made all employees buy it or face termination.  Only good thing was the title,"To catcha mouse, make a noise like a cheese!"  This way he got on the best seller list.
8  eHam Forums / Elmers / Coax via window? on: March 10, 2009, 10:29:05 AM
Take a look at the Quicksilver products.  I have one of their plexiglass window units for over 2 years  and it survived Hurricane Ike.. I am very pleased and it is cheaper than MFJ.
9  eHam Forums / Elmers / Need plug for IC-718 power socket on: December 02, 2008, 11:49:40 PM
MFJ actually makes the replacement for your radio. It will also work on the Yaesu and some Kenwoods.  Will replace the original and it actually works, as surpising as it seems. I think I paid 12.95 US for it and use it as a spare for both my Yaesu 897D and the Icom 718.  KE5LDO  73'S
10  eHam Forums / Misc / Where do I find telescoping masts? on: October 31, 2008, 12:56:56 PM
Contact Houston Amateur Radio in Spring, Texas.  They have what you need.
11  eHam Forums / Elmers / Help With Slinky Antenna on: September 25, 2008, 09:53:08 AM
The Slinky@ is an adequate indoor antenna for RECEIVE ONLY!  I have used it as a dipole indoors as a receive only antenna for years, but I would never attempt to transmit on it.  Just food for thought.
12  eHam Forums / Elmers / Condo Antenna on: September 02, 2008, 04:02:20 PM
Before you place the ground rod in the ground, dig a hole several feet deep as you can get it and put in copper sulfate (Bluestone), available at garden or hardware stores. Do this first. Drive the ground rpd in and cover it with good soil. Keep it watered well and this will improve the conductivity.  I did this when I hit bedrock while living in the Texas Hill Country and used it for several years, or you can place the ground rod horizontal if you can go deep enough and do the same procedure. Deep enough would be 2-3 feet minimum in the horizontal position.
13  eHam Forums / Elmers / What Did I Just Buy? on: August 14, 2008, 07:52:25 PM
I see an old Realistic crystal scanner (I Think), the Kenwood 600, the Dentron.  Do you have any model numbers or makes of the other items?
14  eHam Forums / Lost Hams / John Konopka-SK on: August 13, 2008, 11:54:51 AM

15  eHam Forums / Lost Hams / John Konopka-SK on: August 13, 2008, 12:09:07 AM
His son-in-law is trying to find out if any ham was sold his equipment from John for sentimental reasons.  The equipment he had is missing. He is simply trying to make the equipment went to good home. Greg Dome, KE5LDO
