1  eHam Forums / Site Talk / RE: Nonsense reviews on: April 26, 2013, 09:05:14 PM
Or people not doing a review but posting a question about the operation of the radio or some other factor that has nothing to do with a review.  There are forums for these types of questions, but I guess people don't know the difference between a question forum and a review.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, right or wrong.

4  eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / VX-3R and repeater courtesy tone on: August 11, 2009, 10:04:03 PM
Agree with KO1D.  I am not certain if the 3R has the WIRES ability, but most new Yaesu radios do.  It will generate a tone a split second after the PTT is pressed, then will pass the voice through.  IF the WIRES is turned on, the first part of voice transmission will be covered by the tone beep.  As was just mentioned, make sure that the WIRES is not enabled.  Would suggest testing this on simplex and not a repeater.  I am amazed how many newbee's and amateurs with a new Yaesu get caught by this feature.
5  eHam Forums / Misc / Making a drop in gas prices happen. on: March 29, 2008, 01:59:57 PM
Well, maybe this is an Old E-mail Thread, but to some it is an Old Thorn in our sides.  The middle and low income earners not only pay for the gas and power, but pay more [you can figure this one out].  It is not just what we put in our vehicles that we pay more, everything we purchase will be going up.  I'm sure truckers and trucking outfits will pass on their increases to consumers.  Instead of just brushing this off, do something.  Support a one or more day trucker boycott of driving their rigs.  I have reduced [drastically] the amount of driving I do.  This also hurts recreation facilies as I no longer can afford to drive to them [urbaninization].  It is time that we really do something to eliminate this outright rip off by multinational monopolies!
Well, onto the stationary bicycle for my daily excerse.  Will turn of the radio while doing this to save sky rocketing electrical costs, and adding to pollution.
6  eHam Forums / Elmers / Legalities of a Vx-7r freeband mod on: January 30, 2006, 04:02:03 PM
Not sure if VE6NHZ is still reading this post.  Not being a lawyer, I do not what to get into an argument over whether it is legal or not.  However, should be noted that one Canadian Amateur retailer has this claim posted: "Notice:  Amateur radio transceivers are Industry Canada approved for amateur radio use only.
Any use of these radios otherwise is strictly forbidden under the Radio Communications Act."
If he wants an air band radio [and I haven't reviewed every post closely], I'm not sure if the VXA-700 has been mentioned.  This would give AM air band comms. as well as 2 metre comms..  Some reviews of this radio are on eham, so they can be read to see if it is worthwhile.  This eliminates the need to "mod." a radio to work in the 108-136 mHz frequencies.

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / OK TO LEAVE HT IN CAR FOR A FEW COLD DAYS ? on: December 23, 2005, 11:58:26 PM
I have left a Kenwood TH-D7AG in a vehicle for 4 years.  It has been in the vehicle when the inside temp. hits 100'F+ and when it has been as low as minus 30'F [for a couple of days in a row].  Hasn't affected it at all.  Still working on APRS, and on monitoring a UHF repeater about 40 miles away using a 1/4 wave mag mount.  Only thing that might be different is it is connected to the DC charger and not running on it's own battery [which may have reduced operating time in the cold].  If one can avoid leaving it in the cold, probably better.  One thing I don't have to do is look at the display, but have noticed some small reduction in sharpness on displays on other HTs when in the cold.  In some respects, I wonder how much more harm can be done by moving an HT from a warm environment into a cold environment, or vice versa, on a regular basis?  Things sure fog up when things are brought into a warm environment from a cold one.
Good luck and Seasons Greetings.

I have had the VX-5R for 2 years and it has always showed 8.3V afer charging.  Have had problems with the Li battery.  So, I would say that you should not experience any problems with this reading.
