Concerning Remote Operation - he basically said DX'ing is a selfish act where you are tying to complete a goal and competing with others. I agree. He said that the East Coast has an advantage to Europe and the West Coast has an advantage to the Pacific, and either side can point fingers. I agree.
I disagree. I am not competing with you with regard to DXCC. I am competing with myself. To compare my DXCC totals to someone in KH6 would be ridicoulous, just as comparing my 6m DXCC totals with someone in central Europe would also be ridiculous. Comparing my totals to someone who has spent 100k on an antenna farm, again no comparison. The only way for a true competition is you put me and yourself on the same street, your QTH 1/2 mile down the road, we have the exact same beam antenna or long wire, same radio and amplifier, then it comes down to true skill with regard to breaking a pileup and or running or search and pounce in a contest. I will never compare my totals with yours, I doubt any of us really compare our stats to other DXCC members because there are so many variables with regard to our number of entities worked. Can I really be compared to any other DXer when we started at different stages in our lives, I was around when Heard Island was on the air and was fortunate to work them (from a friends station across town) So I do not compare to my local club members who were not even licensed then.
RF is RF and as long we keep the airwaves filled then we can keep our precious hobby. My mic cord just happens to be a lot longer than yours.
I do wonder if you and I would be friends if we were neighbors, I do wonder if you would say to me Jon, I don't agree with your collecting DXCC totals via remote but hey lets go fishing and have a beer anyway.
I do wish you the best of DX.
