Thank you for all the replies. A formula of 1200/wpm is easy to remember, all I need to do now is cure my problem of a shortened first dot when the transceiver changes over.
On with the struggle!!

I'm trying to resolve a timing issue in a transceiver transmit/receive circuit. Please could someone give me the width of a dot in milliseconds for the following speeds:
5 wpm 10 wpm 15 wpm 20 wpm 25 wpm
There's no point giving me the width for speeds faster than this because I struggle to hit 20 wpm. I am therefore going to set the speed control for a maximum of 25 wpm.

eHam Forums / HomeBrew / Updating Chipset in Homebrew Transceiver

I have a homebrew transceiver using an MC3371 as an IF and detector and a MC2833 to generate the low-level transmit signal before amplification. Both of these chips are now obselete and so I am looking for more modern replacements.
Motorola (now OnSemi) do not manufacture any RF ICs and they have switched their production to power devices.
Maxim IC do manufacture RF devices but have no products below about 300 MHz
National Semiconductor have no suitable RF parts
Philips Semiconductor might have a suitable IC for the FM IF (SA605) but I'm having trouble finding a supplier.
Can anyone recommend IC packages which are not obselete for an FM transceiver?

eHam Forums / Amplifiers / winding your own RF plate choke.

Either buy a VNA (Vector Network Analyzer) or borrow one. The idea is that the plate choke should not resonate at any of the bands in use and by scanning it with a VNA you can check for this.

Superglue, also known as crazy glue.
1) Do not buy cheap glue, the better glues will last longer and stick better.
2) Keep everything clean on both your PCB and the pads.
3) Use tweezers to place the pads, not your fingers.
4) Wear gloves if possible, saves getting fingers stuck together.
5) Use plenty of ventilation, nasty fumes WILL be given off when you solder the pads.

USB on 14 MHz - 28 MHz
LSB on 1.8 MHz - 7 MHz except the 5.3 MHz band (60m) which operates USB on five fixed channels
No speech permitted on the 10.1 MHz band as it's too narrow.

I am having no problems accessing the AORUSA website from here in Hungary. Looking at the WHOIS information it appears that the site is hosted by a company called Spring Sun Inc and the DNS servers are run by Network Solutions.
Hope this helps.

I'd have to sit down and work out the math in this but it looks like the signal is a mixing product from the receiver synth and the oscillator(s) in the panoramic display. I say this because your indication of a signal moves in the opposite direction when you tune the rig.

1)Do you QSL first contacts? Yes
2)Once you get a card in the mail w/SASE, do you return the courtesy by sending one back? Yes, every time
3)If you are trying to acheive an award, do you get all the QSL's you need? If not, how do you follow up? No, I do not chase awards.
4)Do you find QSL'ing a hassle? No, it is part of ham radio
and finally
5)Do you use ARRL's Logbook of the world? No

eHam Forums / Elmers / Is ICOM coming out with an IC-756 Pro4?
|
on: July 03, 2007, 10:06:22 AM
|
|
We may see an Icom 756 Pro IV, I don't know, the main reason for this posting is the Hilberling 8000. I've closely examined one of these rigs and spoken at length with the designer, Dr Hans Hilberling. I would like to make the following observations:
1) The Hilberling PT-8000 is probably the best ham radio in the world today. It has been designed and built without compromise, think Mercedes or Lexus if you want to compare it to a car. Yes, there are lots of 'bells and whistles' but not as many as the Icom
2) The Icom-7800 comes a very close second, if only because the president of Icom has given this project his personal backing. The engineering is good and they have listened to their customers, for example in modifying the front end and fitting another roofing filter. Be warned, the control panel has more controls than a 747.
3) The Yaesu 9000 series is a distant third. Reviews on the Eham board and comments on the Yahoo board indicate that lots of hams have had problems with this rig. I have also encountered a lot of unhappy Orion owners as well.
So, if you want the best you will need to buy German rather than Japanese.

I am not concerned that you are in the Turkish part of Cyprus and if I hear your callsign on air we might even have a QSO. I will also talk to Serbs, Croatians, Greeks, Russians, Palestinians, Israelis, Chinese, Taiwanese and anybody else who can put out a signal.
Political and religious arguments have no place in ham radio. On CW nobody can hear your accent or see the color of your skin.

Looking for someone willing to email part of the Yaesu Quadra schematics. I don't need the full set, just the schematic of one of the MRF150 based PA boards (all of them look the same). Email to edwardalmos@gmail.com Any graphics format. Tnx HA6SST
